Did anyone else ever have the misfortune to get involved with one of these horrible things? Evil things drive let alone to work on.
Only one thing in its favour… Grace Slick!
Can only remember a couple of these, Frank Wright from Ashbourne had one with a sleeper cab on it and W.J Capper from Wellington ran a day cabbed one, any pics of either?
came into my place yesterday. still going strong. back in the dim (very dim) distant past saw an 809 caravan transporter for sale , couldn’t persuade dad to buy it , thought it would be a step up from a TK
We had a 'fridge one on Harrier Express when I worked there. It was used as a puddle-jumper, but it had started the fleet off in the first place! I drove it occasionally and it wouldn’t do over 50 mph which was a bind on motorways. But it was very reliable. It was last heard of working on a Greek island. Here’s a picture of it. Robert
Quite agree with you, totally horrible. Noisy, uncumfy & slow and they look crap as well. Forget and move on…
From what I recall they had the Gorilla steering wheel which was bigger even than the Ergo and the DAF, a seat which was never in the right place, an engine hatch that was a real pain to get out, batteries under the seat, a bone shaking ride… and the song just about sums up the brakes.
This one’s still running well, it’s used by Graham Vallence of Annesley Woodhouse to transport his classic vehicles to shows.
The ones Frank Wright of Ashbourne ran were 1113’s, the last one operating out of there was bought by an owner operator called Mick Boyes of Wetley Rocks who ran it until the late 1990’s
Was the cab on these shared with other marques (Renault?) or is it just that it resembles the Club of Four cab? Anyway, I never had the (dis)pleasure of one of these, since the TK and D-Series were so much better
The 814 OTOH, that was a different animal altogether…

No, it belongs firmly to the Mercedes LP family: the likeness is all there in the lines of the cab.
