Ok so they drive ok there not bad to tramp in but the build quality is rubbish im in 14 plate and theres cracks appearing on the steps going from the foot plate out, the plastic where the steering wheel ajustment button on the floor is cracked have i just got a friday build or are they all like it and lets not even go there with the dealer back up because there crap as well
I’ve just recently had a brand new one, I can’t see it lasting as well as the MAN I used to have.

Built down to a price I’m afraid. Put one driver only in who actually cares about his “house” and it’ll stay as good as new throughout its life, put multiple drovers who don’t give a flying ■■■■ and you’ll find that within six months it resembles a yard shunter.

Mine is 10 weeks old and has already had a trip to the bodyshop.
I’ve just dug out my t-cut to take back into work with me on Friday. The days of one man, one truck are long gone.
To the office, it’s just a set of wheels. Not my home. I was told to hand my keys over to one of our lads who’s motor was in for a service. Told them to send him for a shower first.
He came over and asked me how long it’d take for me to get my gear out. “As long as it takes you to have a shower”
“But I need to get down the road”
“Not as much as you need a shower, come back when you’re clean”
Cheeky zedbee then proceeded to tell me not to bother cleaning it out for him. I told him to shut the f up, as I’d already cleaned it, at which point he commented that my mats, that I put on top of my fitted carpet, weren’t very clean.
“You never mind those matey boy, they’ll be shaken out before they go in the boot of my car, I didn’t spend my hard earned on them for the likes of you to cover in crap”
Really bugs me. My mudguards are trashed, and have been since day 4 or 5 of it being brand new (my days off)
Bugs the living daylights out of me how much stuff day and night men can mess about with, seats, menus, trips, passenger seats, radio, Bluetooth their phones in etc, but the my don’t give a hoot about air suspension or bushes in laybys.

Actors rear axle mudguards are my bugbear. All of ours got updated to flatter top ones but they’d ran out of them by the time I got back to the yard. I told the fleet engineer not to bother getting any more as I’m quite capable of using air suspension correctly. The only flaw in my plan was not taking into account the numpties that drive it on a weekend!
Our 15 plate Daf CF’s that were given to the yard shunters, had the displeasure of driving one last Friday. Air suspension didn’t work at all so had to ram it under and hope I didn’t get the battery box, given the liberal amounts of grease on it the shunter doesn’t seem to care. The inside is trashed, reeks of ■■■ smoke. Its a shame really, as they aren’t that bad a truck for shift work. Alright the cab is small but you aren’t tramping in it and the ultra slow reverse gear is a god send for a newbie like me.

Agree with most of that.
Aside from some of the one truck one driver tramping jobs still around the vehicle is an asset that the companies will work 24/7 if they so require with multiple drivers if and when required. And without very strict management as mentioned they quickly fall into poor condition although no one is obviously tramping in them if there being worked day and night. Although companies don’t really bother as they will get a quick tart up and punted off to auction of handed back from hp or lease agreement with damage/wear and tear payments inc.
As for Merc, agree that is comes to price, poor auto box compared to other. Some of the bigger fleets are switching to them (rt keedwells for example i’m sure one of there drivers who vlogs mentioned that 95% will be merc in a year or so as current deals end etc and trucks are due for replacement) if they get better fuel economy (supposedly most firms are getting good consumption with them with a variety of drivers) and if there getting them in there hundreds then from a financial perspective it will make sense.
Since when have the bigger firms ( or indeed a lot of the small ones too) thought the slightest bit about their drivers and our welfare!
I dont think there bad to drive its just the build quality thats rubbish
