So, i’ve managed to flat my batteries at least i think they’re flat.
I bought a Sealey Heavy duty 560 battery charger which came with no mains plug?!■■!■■! ■■■■■. My £250 weren’t enough for a ■■■■■■■ plug?
So after spending ages wiring a plug to it, i hate fiddly jobs, i open the battery cover which is under the trailer rather than Easily accessible at the side (thanks euro 5) & there’s no positive or negative symbols on any of the terminals and the wires arent red or black which would indicate positive ir negative, I mean WTF Mercedes?
So, i’m going to relax, calm down & wait for you boys to tell me where to hook up the positive & negative terminal of the 560.
Theres 4 terminals obviously across the 2 batteries in a line to the left of the battery heading away from me, i should probably know this already but a helping hand so I dont blow the wagon up would be appreciated!
should have 2 sets of terminals. 2 small and 2 large. 2small are normally negative 2 large are positive.
double check the negative cable as it should go to the chassis unless its a pet reg vehicle.
there should be a positive and negative terminal on passenger side between exhaust and lift axle its 2 bars with red and black clips on, they are used to save going under trailer
Too late now but unless you need to stuff a load of current in quickly this is the best bet and is protected and will indicate if connected to the wrong terminals.
Plug the abs suzie off a good lorry into the abs socket on the dead one. Leave everything off in the dead one and bring up the revs in the good one to about 1500.
Go have some coffee for 10 minutes.
Come back, plug the suzie out if the dead one BEFORE trying to start it and then give it a turn.
Will work if not dead dead flat. The power and earth wires in the suzie is usually enough to charge a dead battery.
Just make sure not to try start it when the 2 lorries are connected
It would be like trying to start it connected to the batteries by the thin wires in the lead. In reality I think the fuse protection would prevent a catastrophe as it would be similar to a short in the trailer ABS/EBS but it’s an unnecessary risk so best to disconnect.
Its euro 5 so the batteries are behind the 5th wheel. I stepped out to the supermarket to wait for your always helpful replies, thanks.
II’ll have a punt at him now & let you know the outcome, if you don’t hear from me, i’m probably shocked in to the yard next door with a smoking truck, could do with a day off anyway, i’m knacked.
I just didn’t want to pay for spanners to do it as they charge. £’s for call out.
Need a PHD to work these bloody charger things out.
On the Axor, the negative terminal is the first terminal you see in line when you are looking up the fifth wheels bottom & the positive terminal is the furthest, the fourth terminal nearest the cab.
WTF Mercedes? No markings on the terminals to indicate positive or negative, total guess work on my part as the above advice didn’t seem to apply.
Apparently my first atempt at charging the booster failed as i hadn’t switched it on… Then the fuse in the wall socket blew so i’m now sat in my car with the engine running for the next hour charging him on a 12v inverter.

Were you trying to charge or boost, had you defintely got the clamp leads wired up to 24v on the charger?
On boost if very flat it probably won’t start it without a charge first and will draw a massive amount of current probably more than a 13A socket can supply. It should probably also have a fuse on the charger top, that looks like a bolted down piece of flat metal, that may also have gone. In the workshop we have a heavier duty electrical connector than a 13A plug fitted.
It’s best to look on the battery itself for the +/- embossed in the plastic casing top another thing to look for is the terminal with a thick cable running to the chassis will be the -ve.
Bit worried about the 12v inverter charging, do you mean you’re charging each 12v cell individually with the car? That should work ok but, yes time consuming.
No dude i’m charging the heavy duty jump stsrter i just paid £250 for & still wont start the bag of ■■■■■. Must be a dodgy battery or the Yoke is faulty. I now gotta wait an hour for the Spanners to turn up & charge me £200 for the privildge. The OD life rules…
