OK guy’s your probably getting fed up with me
.
I’ve been quoted a good deal from Geoff Sipson Commercials in Coventry for a 6x2 2004 Merc Actros 2546 with a good spec, long distance cab, twin tanks, telligent box( I always liked this box, made you drive steady) 350km and he will fit a new PTO and there is even some Merc warranty remaining.
I see quite a few of these 2004 blue coloured MP2 Actros’s in the truck papers, what fleet are they from
Do you guy’s “in the know” think a 2004 MP2 Actros will stand up to 3 years of 44t quarry work pulling a Kel-berg T99 tipper if I don’t abuse her
Whats the tare weight of 6x2 MP2 Actros’s like
I spoke to a Mercedes truck workshop foreman today and he thought the MP2 “might” be a little “soft” for quarry work,
any opinions

Small chance I spose.

He’s right. That type of work will kill it.
Get a Foden if you’re solely doing quarry work. Excellent work horses, well built (in comparison), reliable and also ultra cheap these days. Get one with the 450 Cat lump in it and you won’t be disappointed - it’s a very good puller and you’ll be glad of the 16 speed box and diff lock on that terrain. If you’ve got a lead foot they can get a bit thirsty though but if you drive sensibly like it’s your own then you’ll get fuel figures as good as anything else.
I think they are ex Fermac. So would have thought they already had a PTO. If it’s the ones I’m thinking of they had black fuel tanks ?
They used to pull aggregates with them, but don’t know how they got on. I know Fermac have some older Scania’s so maybe the Actros isn’t up to the job, if they got rid of them so soon.
Get the V8
V6’s are gutless.
As with all Mercs
WATCH OUT FOR THE HILLS !!!
have a look at the new MAN with the new OFF-ROAD system
my mate has had one now for 2-4 months and he reckons
it beats the merc and scania hands down, the FODEN is
very good as well, what about a HINO as they are not bad
also what about a TATRA these are good as well,
but in the end it is down to YOU and HOW much you are willing
to spend,
the blue actro’s if the reg’s are SN04 then there ufd’s.
as for quarry work there bad enough on the road.
does v.fraser&sons still have the custom painted merc on tipper work?he might be worth a call for info or i think nugent from toome direction has got mercs as well.how are lagans axors doing ,seem to see them pulling from comber way through dundonald along with a foden +halfpipe quite regular. had two actros 480 m/spaces full autos but only on euro work so wouldnt be sure of their quarry capabilities. are you going to keep the present type of livery ?
well i,ve owned an MP2 for 3yrs now and it has caused no bother at all, it goes well running over the A66 a couple a times a week and i get on some very dodgy ground at construction sites and its never let me down yet, got to be a megaspace though

Glenman,
can’t seem to find Vivien Frasers phone no anywhere, but spoke to Dessie McClean who’s got a couple of 4x2 MP2’s and he is well impressed with them.
The Lagan Axor (Mad Stevie has give that unit some abuse over the last 3 years
) is probably about to be traded for a 450hp Stralis Active time,do you see that all the artic tipper men are now following my lead and getting the half pipe Kel-bergs for their light tare
The livery on the Foden is not mine,I left it just the same as previous owners Reid Transport from Ayr in Scotland and just put my stickers on it. I thought it didn’t look too bad as the colour matched the trailer.
Getting a real good deal from Coulters truck+van so it may just be going to be a Twingo
.
dont know if you’re buying new or not big truck. had a 420 premium before and found it very gutless but maybe you are dealing for a 440?the man ive just left has 2 480 magnums and 2 due to be delivered+1stralis,all autos but all on euro work.found myself to prefer daf xf’s from all the rest,if you would like to buy a recent 480/530 im sure the driver wouldn’t mind.mind you the type of things i dont like about certain trucks apply more maybe when you live in them.by the way whats the quarry work like for a driver and is anybody looking drivers?looking back to local work and more regular hours again.
by the way what about the future livery? factory colour plus graphics? or full paint job? nmc round lough neagh does a good job.
If its to be the Premium I will chip it to about 460 horse as I’m getting such a good deal the £500 to chip it should be money well spent,it will be covered by a Renault warranty for the first year anyway.
The colour will be factory white plus stickers from “Signlines” at Moneyreagh,he only charged me £250 for the job on the Foden.
Expect to take home around £300/week for 5 days at the artic quarry work, hours roughly 6am til 4pm.
P.S. 480 Actros/Magnums/single Stralis,you work for Dickie Curran
Had the MP2 for over a year now , )had the older actros(MP1■■) before that , great truck , never let us down , nice cab , everything you would want , ALTHO am not sure how it would last on quarry work! , there is a lot of local boys buying and using axors with the 460 engine , and it seams to do well for them?
sorry big truck was out on a trip to italy,no i dont work for curran although i was thinking of giving him a ring in the new year.for the last 5 yrs ive been back and forward with hume in randalstown.do euro for a while then get a job at home for a while, but looking again for home job at the minute.
ah the old actros debate.98,s are dirt the rest are grand.mp2,seasier to live with the v6 likes to be revved and the v8 likes diesel.recyled volvos(renault) popular up north must do a good handshake about coulters
ufd 's actros only had one fuel tank ,it wasnt a factory fit it was bigger than normal and made to fit,i drove casual in 2004 at the weekend for conrad the tm out of warrington,i usually had sn53kzd good truck 460bhp,loaded to 44t warrington /bellshill/warrington,waste paper up reels down,no issues regarding the hills pulled well and dealer maintained,as for will it take the quarrys pass i aint owned any or drove out of a quarry with one, ufd,s trucks spent most of there time running at top weight with waste paper, reels chipboard, there were some light loads but not many
