Merc Actros mirror cams

I was wondering if the cameras used for the mirrors on new Mercs have any recording functionality.
Most of our fleet are Actros’ with standard mirrors, and these all have wing mounted cameras, however the few that have mirror cams don’t have wing mounted cameras, because ‘they’ve got cameras up there’
All our units have dash cams, but they aren’t manufacturer fitted, so anything recorded on them would probably not be able to be stored in the same way, meaning having to have two separate hard drives to save data.
I recently had an accident while driving, someone went into the back of me, and my work went to get the recordings from the mirror cams and were surprised to find they didn’t have any data recorded.
I would be surprised if Mercedes didn’t offer it as an option, especially as one they could charge a fortune for rather than just giving it away, but no one I’ve spoken to seems to know.

All of ours have the retrofitted cameras on both sides so I don’t believe mirror cams record. I might me wrong. On a side note, I hate those mirror cams.

Tesco aren’t you??

Should have avoided being trained on them.

Yes your right, one of our older driver’s refuses daily and said he will retire before he gets forced.

No they don’t.

I work for a guy that has 3 brand new ones, and the mirrorcams are only in place of the mirrors.

Why, what have you done?

Ken.

A couple of our drivers can’t use them. Neither of them need glasses for driving but do for things like reading or watching tv so they both find that they can’t see the screens properly without glasses but can’t see the road clearly with glasses on

I didn’t do anything, except have someone drive into the back of me. A recording from those cameras or ones mounted on the wing would have been useful to send to the insurance company (and in my compensation claim!)

For the first gen of mirror cam I think the Mercs ones are great. The best points are, no glare when driving at night, no high beam headlights hiting your face when someone forgets them on, while driving behind you, also no direct sun light burning your eyesight through the mirrors when driving at dusk or dawn with the sun right behind you, the feature of the cam following the rear of the trailer when going around a corner is a gimmick, but well thought, not to mention, the great thing of not having to check if there is something small like a pushbike or a scooter “hiding” behind your off side mirror, when entering roundabouts. That last one for London driving is a treat.

This is all fantastic and great and all but…did they fix the suspension and ride quality?

Noticed a new High end Daf with mirror cams on, perhaps it’s going that way!

I can’t use these, as the tablet image is too close for me to see without wearing my reading glasses - which I cannot see the road ahead if I wear those.

It’s obviously not practical to keep swapping over glasses whilst driving, so I simply got failed on the tablet mirrors for changeover training. I’ll continue using the old fashioned proper mirrors instead, no worries…

I’m glad I wasn’t kicked into touch for this “weakness” though!
