Memory Lane

You gotta go down the “Ho Chi Minh” trail.

I’ve been waiting 20 years to say that again !.

Onto the National at Riems, carry on past the sugar factory, bit of motorway around Bourg en bresse(wieght limit) Chalon. . autoroute to Tournos ,turn left,Bierrine(Phils pub). bit further Algerians.
Tunnel du chat(watch your height) Chambery.
Skirt round Geneve and follow the signs for Torino.

I know ive left a lot out here and its probably in the wrong order but i havent done Itie for years and ive been on the Carlsberg export

I’m ok with the Sugar Factory and Le Pub at Bourg (guess who I worked for once). Always wondered where the Algirians was.
Ho Chi Minh apart from Battlefield2 Vietnam you’ve lost me on that one haha.

Rennie Hoggs ?   or was you driving a Eurotech lol

No I started at Sammy Jones pulling Ferrymaster tilts then went on to drawbars for Murfitts (thats a thread in itself). RH and Brian Yeardleys were always at Le Pub. Bowkers were always at Carisio.

I spent a year doing Italy/Spain full time I only left cos I got a start at H&S in Gent… then the work really started… I loved the South from my first ever trip.

Al

Oh yeah, driving a Eurotech! I need to read other peoples posts properly, especially if I’m asking for advice… Haha

Sorry mate Al

Going to Italy? You’ll need a pile of these, I’ve only got one.

I’ve got a couple of those at home. Happy days.

There’s a problem with going down memory lane, it’s a dead end.

The Algerians was (is?) near Auxerre on the Ho Chi Minh - an unofficial Paris bypass from Senlis peage down to Avallon area IIRC but stand to be corrected after all these years!

Sugar factory was called “Begin Say”…low bridge at Chalon…If you pass Jayat I left some washing there on my last trip out…came home Swiss… Tunnel Du Chat is OK with a Murfitts road train if you stayed in the middle of the road…too much wine flowed under the bridge to have got any of that right

Not at all, If it had been down to me I would of probably hammered down to Milan and then gone to sit outside Gardaland untill it was time to drive back.
I’ve seen adverts in the Caravan press for guided holidays that cost a fortune (still paying fuel & fees etc…). I knew the Drivers on TNUK would come up better suggestions than some pipe smoking old giffer who wears socks with his sandals.
I’ve been so pleased with this thread I’m already planning my next trip.
Thanks Everyone Al

I just read on facebook that Eric (La Mistral) has closed for good, I don’t know when this happened, but it would have been very recently

No worries Jimti, typical that I’ve been away this week I’m dying to get home and plan my route.

Isnt the Algerians down the road from Jayat ?

The HoChiMin never went anywhere near Reims.

It started as JJ72 said at Senlis, went around the east side of Paris, can’t remember the name of most of the towns now, but I can see it in my head  it came out on the N6 at, can’t remember that either, but if I saw a picture of it I could tell you exactly where it was  That was the HoChiMin, the rest of the route was RN6 all the way, south of Auxerre was the Algerians, then the next stop was the Rallye Route, then Bessy en Chaume? and the run down to Chalons, go on the Convoi Exceptionnel and you didn’t need to hop on the big road, but it bypassed Tournus and Le Mistral, bringing you out on the D917? and passing the Italian place at Brienne, Phil’s was there also, but much later, eventually passing Jayat. If you stayed on the Tournus road you ended up in Macon, before the motorways joined up it was past the Bakehouse, after the motorway there was place with a big green sign that ‘proper’ drivers never went to  after Macon or Jayat, there was the Pub at Bourg, then if you went Frejus the place at Pont D’Ain was next, then the Pinkhouse and the one at the bottom of the Chat. If you went through the Blanc, the Monkey House was next or the Shell at Nantua, if you’re still hungry after all that then you have serious problems

But I’d go over the Simplon if I was the OP, awesome scenery
