Memorbilia from jobs you do?

Anyone collect things from the various jobs they do?

As some are aware I do alot of work within the rail sector moving signals track and other associated rail infrastructure. I have got a selection of rail signal signs and markers dotted around my garden. Sad I know but all the signs were being scrapped and I thought I would keep some. I did get offered a full vintage signal the other week but the wife said you aint putting that in the ZB-ing garden

eBay man, eBay. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

i have found coins and old tools whilst digging…once found an american silver spoon on an old airfeild then another identical one 5 miles away on another job…in the summer im an avid collector of insects on the front of the truck if that counts…

While doing skip work I once found some expensive clay flower pots thrown in a skip from a garden clearance, mum was very pleased when I brought them home

I’ve also found a nice wicker chair and a storage box which now resides in my cab

seeing as you’ve ā€œcome outā€ as an anorak  I always look out for name or builders plates off old machinery that we move if it is going for scrap or disappearing abroad (usually one or the other :frowning: ),
and have a small collection

pride of place goes to a 12" x 9" solid cast nameplate from the 1960s which came off the slabbing mill at shepcote lane, which i nearly killed myself removing with a crowbar and lump hammer  no photo:

a reminder of what we once were capable of building for the rest of the world in this country I suppose is the attraction

not required for my current job as a 8 wheel tipper driver though

Don’t get me started on my collection of (memorabilia) from skips, I did a couple of years and colected some real good treasure, did a job at a school with a load of old trophies, one was solid silver and weighed 700grms, hallmark dated it to 1890’s. Ā£300 richer with that find.

I’ve still got a shed full of stuff that will come in handy one day  , it always amazed me the things that some people just throw away.

I found a little crystal inkwell that turned out to be swarovski, her indoors now has about 70 bloody pieces of it, (insert mental image of empty pockets here) :frowning:

probably the only thing I miss about the skips really, no treasure.

Tin of butterscotch buscuits from manchester cabins is the only thing i’ve ever been given …nice tho

Townsend-Thoresen get my vote for supplying the best and most useful stuff.
When I first started as a Euro-tramper, there was fierce competiton beween them and Seasink to be awarded the contract for supplying stuff for my cab.

In the end, the Seasink stuff was just crap, TT won with their ability to supply a good quality tea-pot, with decent cutlery and condiments, which are still in use today. Their linen supply and laundry service was good too, and it even wasn’t too much trouble for them to supply freshly laundered sheets and pillow cases once I’d ā€˜obtained’ the first set for swopping. :grimacing:

Only thing i collect is the POUNDS that go in my bank every week :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: alough building a big collection of them is near imposible
