Medicals for under 45's

You beat me to it ROG, I was slowed down by the poker I’m playing interrupting my posting.

A full house then

I was correct in my assumption it will be a self certification thing so no trip to the Doctors required and no medical cost until 45. Page 30 of the PDF in the link Del gave.

6.4.9. We propose that the general procedure in Great Britain for Group 2 drivers under the age of 45 should be that they self-declare their compliance with the medical standards on the five-year renewal application. Making a false declaration and failing to notify a relevant medical condition would continue to be offences liable for prosecution. Existing rules for providing medical reports to renew driving entitlement after age 45 would continue as now.

self certificates,Do they honestly think the cowboys will take any notice of this if there is something wrong with them, I am not a goodygoody but off my own bat, I have a check up every 3 months, and if I find I am not fit to drive an HGV I will hang up my licence

i have to renew my medical every year for my pilots licence they can go and get f**ked if they think im going pay for another medical to hold onto my licence

remember the supposed shortage of drivers a few years ago? that will be the reality come 2014. its just more and more bull hitting this industry. how much are you going to take before you decide it isnt worth it any more?

I know it’ll probably cost a few quid, but I think it’s a good idea, it should be annually too, don’t you think it’s a good idea to get people that shouldn’t be driving off the road? It would also alert you to any problems that you may be unaware of, like maybe picking up a form of cancer/heart disease that could turn out to save your life. The same goes for eye exams, they should be annual too, far too many people drive around with poor eyesight :open_mouth:

Eye tests should be compulsory at any age annually. I now wear specs but my bad eyesight crept up on me a few years ago.
I didnt realise that my eyesight was deteriating, about 8 years ago I was on the M6 southbound near Stafford when I went blind without warning.
I was lucky I managed to get on the hard shoulder without hitting anything. I managed to find 999 on my phone and finished up in north staffs hopital. the opthalmic doctors put it down to strain over the years,as it gets worse, you adapt to it slowly until it hits you all of a sudden. A few weeks rest and specs soon put me right.
