Had my new licence back in a week .
Just an aside, when I last did my medical, the doc said that eyesight now has to be checked by an optician approved by DVSA, so he couldn’t do that part of the medical.

The DR i went to just did a cursory eye test with a Snellen chart ,with & without glasses Most High street opticians will only give the details of any prescription you may need, unless you ask them for the acuity results from their tests, some me be willing to fill out the eye sight part of the D4 and sign and stamp it,
I think it’s if you have had you licence revoked for medical conditions that could affect your field of vision , As then the DVLA will require you to take a Easterman visual field test that has to be carried out by an optician on their list , some hospitals would appear to offer this service based on an old FOI request for said list,
Specsavers did get the dvla contract back in 2014 but it was only in certain branches , they may of expanded this since though

Our vintage club secretary, aged 75, drives an old ERF to shows and he had to get an opticians report as he needs specs for driving. I understand that if you only need them for reading etc then that doesn’t matter? Is that correct, my own medical must be due next year and I might just renew it again?

Pete.
If for reading ( near) and not distance then that is correct . they still use the snellen test at medicals. unless you have your vision acuity test results from your optician as that part of the D4 has to be filled in . I suppose that the optician may complete the eyesight part and sign/stamp it, but will they expect paying ?
