But does depend how old you were when took test as if you were say 43 it would be every 5 years after that

From age 45 upwards it is usually 5 years from the expiry date next to cat C on the licence then yearly from age 65
I say usually because there can be medical reasons which demand a shorter gap between renewals

I only just passed and it’s got 5 years I’m 32. But just read gov.uk
“If you apply to claim your first lorry or bus test pass or renew your driving licence on or after 19th January 2013, the licence issued will be valid for a maximum of 5 years”.

I reckon as an under 45 year old you are now subject to the 5 yearly self assessment medical like a 70 year old car driver does

This is how I reckon it works -
Pass D4 medical at age 33
Do 5 year self assessments at ages 38 and 43
Do D4 5 year medicals at ages 48 53 58 63
Do D4 1 year medicals at ages almost 66 then 67 68 69 70 71 etc
