Medical loss of licence

Just had a phone from a friend re another friend asking for advice.
The friend has had his C licence revoked for having heart problems.

I don’t know if this has been discovered as a result of a routine medical or an illness etc.

The problem seems to be that DVLA have written and said “your licence is revoked” but fail to tell him what he should do/what his options are re challenging them or getting licence back later.
I know I have read on here some reports of long running battles about this kind of thing.
Can anyone advise re the first things he should be doing to start the ball rolling and the general proceedure?

This link might help. He shouldn’t be hoping to get it back any time soon, if at all. Time to consider his options maybe?

Thanks.
I don’t know about considering his options as I have no idea of how old etc he is, as I said a friend of a friend.

Spooky, I got my letter this morning (I have suffered Heart Failure, getting a bit better now  ) - lots of forms to fill in, and one to send/give to my consultent. Once done they will consider what bits of my licence i can keep, but fairly certain my C+E has gone, would be nice if i kept the rest of it.

fairly happy about driving a car at the moment, but only do so if other half is with me - would not consider putting myself behind the wheel of anything bigger.

On top of all this, i now have to use Insulin for my Diabetes, so i am off to do some shelf stacking once fit for work.

A bit of a shame as after 4 years on agency i had just got a full time job., ah well.

HTH

A guy I worked with was wrongly diagnosed with a heart problem which turned out to be a stomach virus. It took him years to get his licence back, even after a top harley st heart man told the DVLA there was nothing wrong with his ticker.

this sounds familiar

had some problems when going for my medical for my c, was giving up smoking at the time an had a nicotine patch on, the doctor asked all the questions about how long i had been on them and then turns around and says you’ve got heart beat problems :open_mouth:
you hav to go striaght to your own doctor who in turn said take the patch off and come back tomorrow and i bet heart beat is fine

well next day all ok but by this time the first doctor had sent form away saying i had doddgy heart, so months going back and forward i had 2 go for a 24h heart trace to get the full ok but the hassel i get if i want to change address or renew my licence is a pain in the you no wot and DVLA always ask the same question has my heart problem got any worse :unamused:

but by the sounds i was lucky only lost my full licence for about a month tops and only took 6 months to sort out going for my c so yous guys who have had it worse i feel your pain

I had a mild heart attack just over five tears ago, in hospital for a week and on sick for another four.
I now have to renew my HGV every three years, always the same routine, reminder off of DVLA, medical at GP, DVLA write back and tell me to a fitness test (9 minutes on treadmill) at local hospital (private appointment paid for by DVLA),and then licence reappears for another three years.
DVLA will listen to no medical experts except their own people, no matter who’s opinion you have. After an angiogram, my consultant told me and DVLA that there was nothing wrong and no need for further checks, they take no notice what so ever, so just go with the flow and do as they say.

had a heart attack at 39 and lost my class 1

2 years later after tests by dvla got it back in full but had another heart attack at 45 and that was it end of driving HGV

good luck and just keep trying you have nothing to lose

His next stop is down to his GP, DVLA should have written to his Doctor giving reasons.
Its up to the Doc but a referal to a Cardiac Specialist on the NHS would probably be the next stop.
The Cardiac Specialist will do whats needed if it can be done to get things on the straight and narrow, he’ll then write to the Med Dep at DVLA telling them whats been done and giving his opinion on whether your mate is fit to hold Class 2 entitlement.
DVLA will then write to your mate asking him if he wants to reapply for Class 2 entitlement.
If he does they will send the forms and then organise a ECG/Treadmill test or similar with their own Doctor at a hospital local to your mate.
Assuming all is well with the tests they will then reinstate the licence, but expect all the above to take a least 12 months
Going through something similar meself

My licence was revoked in May 2011 after a bad ECG result in March 2011, been promised I should know if I’m going to get it back within the next 5 weeks

Thanks joe, thats the information I was looking for.
as far as I am aware he has been simply sent a letter revoking his licence and absolutley nothing else at all.
I’ll pass your info on to him.

No problem, hope things go ok for him and keep me posted if he wants any more help or info, he’ll be crawling the walls by the time the DVLA Med Dep have fished with him

Thats the DVLA Med Dep for you, they’re far to aloof to talk to and explain to us mere mortals what the problem is, but will happily communicate with their ‘‘fellow proffesionals’’ :unamused: but don’t expect the Doctor to have been told a whole lot more, he/she may have to write to get all the gory details. Best if he can get deferred straight away, the Cardiac Specialist will be more au fait with the procedure and will be well used to dealing with the buggers  .

Bear in mind that if you take the forms to a doctor, he will have to submit all your medical details as stated on the form.
Same thing if you have to go into hospital, providing you tell them you are a HGV driver.

I am already under the DVLA and have to have a treadmill test ( was every year, is now done every 2 years )

I was admitted to hospital recently, and one consultant told me i was having another heart attack, the lead consultant said it was mydiocarditus ( inflamation of the heart muscle ) so 2 different opinions, but one could have revoked my licence if i was a new patient, because of a misdiagnosis…but all is well now…good luck with yours…i would be inclined to give DVLA a ring, ask what caused the revokation ( someone has told them something, it doesnt come out of thin air ) then ask them what to do, or what are they going to do, i would suspect, further medicals under their control.

Thanks for all advice i am passing it all on.
Just to be clear, it really is a friend of a friend! not me being bashful
