Medical at 45

I reach the grand old age of 45 in a few months and was wondering if I have to apply for the medical form from the DVLA or will they send it to me automatically? Also is it the same medical I did when I applied for my provisional in 2004. I’m sure I read somewhere that you have to pee in a bottle? cant remember doing that in 2004, ha.

You should get renewal forms with medical automatically couple of months before its due.

Just had my medical done by doctors on wheels for £51, asked a few questions, checked blood pressure and that was it. Even told me my blood pressure was better than his!!

After paying £51 to get your “blood pressure check” I’d advise you not to read what i linked as it may… err… raise your blood pressure

£51 sounds quite cheap, I’m sure I paid £70 back in 2004 (if its the same medical?) What areas do these doctors on wheels cover? I’m in South Wales.

Should have read that first but it didn’t really apply to me as HGV had expired 5 years earlier.

It is a bit of a worry though that there must be a lot of drivers going an extra 5 years without a medical.

Have a look at doctorsonwheels.co.uk/ Mon-Fri was £51, weekends was a bit more.

They’ve got locations all over country, did mine in back of van at Ashford truckstop

Change your photo and get 5 more years

ROG:
Anyone over age 40 who has not been issued with a licence since October 2012 will get 5 years LGV entitlement when they change the photo on it even if the photo is nowhere near expiry

Many are now taking advantage of this if they are due a D4 medical very soon

In my case the photo expired in August 2013 and my next D4 medical was due in Dec 2014
I paid £24.50 at a post office which had the special photo machine available to deal with licence photo renewal and got the new style licence issued to me in August 2013 with LGV expiry dates moved to August 2018

I got mine done in Cardiff at Big Wheelers ( the hgv training school) for £50 a few months back, they get a doctor in for the day.Check their website for available dates you can have it done 56 days before the expiry date on your licence. My gp wanted £140 so it’s worth it.

Under £25 for a photo replacement is less than half that
