Medical and training

Hello. I have been offered a medical and all theory test and hazards training, with a full C class training for £140 plus £1075 for 3 days training including test fees. Is this reasonable and its not an agency.

The price itself sounds reasonable but you need to focus more on he quality of the training as opposed to how much they charge.

Eg do they do 1to1 tuition or do you truck share etc. What is the kit they run like, do they have dedicated yard space.

Everyone prioritises things differently but as someone about to undergo training myself I can only advise to do your homework, ring round and meet trainers and see what works best for you

Difficult to compare without looking at the detail. eg does the £140 include classroom theory training as well as online? Does it include multiple choice, hazard perception and Module 2 case studies?

“3 days” Is this 1:1, 2:1, full days or part days?

What is the truck? Is it donkey’s years old?

Is there a choice of manual or automatic?

Is the set up big enough to be able to cover mechanical problems or instructor sickness?

Who is the instructor? What qualifications, if any? Instructor qualification may be as little as having held a licence for 3 years. Strangely, this is legal. But fully trained, qualified instructors are out there.

What facilities does the trainer offer? eg properly marked reversing area? Tests conducted on site?

What accreditations does the trainer hold eg DVSA LGV Training Centre Accreditation?

Please don’t be sucked in to buying just on price. There is a world of difference between trainers which should be properly researched before spending your money. And there isn’t always the same degree of difference in price that you might imagine. Sometimes this is nominal.

I am more concerned about the 3 days training including test
Is it only 3 half days of 4 hours or is it full days of 8 hours
If full days do you think you can keep up the high level of concentration for 8 hours  = most I have taught got brain fried after about 4 or 5 hours
If it is 8 hour training days of 1 to 1 then is much of that time going to be spent not driving as its too much for an individual to cope with …

2 to 1 all day or 1 to 1 half days tends to be the norm for this reason

I paid £180 for medical, CPC 2 & 4, theory test and access to an online portal for mock theory tests etc + an assessment drive.

I then paid £1170 for 5 half day lessons and the practical test so depending on how many hours you’re driving for in those three days it sounds OK.

As others have said though, after 4 hours behind the wheel you’re about done and mistakes start to creep in due to fatigue.

I have paid my money now, have been told will get all my training material after the medical (still keep getting calls from brokers will hope they will give in).

Medical is on Saturday, so wish me the best.

Thanks

Matt

Thank you Pete.

What is the next step to take after the medical and sending the forms away.

Thanks

Matt

Ok if your paid up, chin up and crack on, my story may help, I had trouble in the job I am leaving getting a week off, so my trainer done 3x 7 hour days and test,
result pass with 5 minors, day 1 very hard, but gets much better on day 2, you will be surprised, but as said normal is 4 or 5x 4 hours, I got through on 3 days age 53 give it your best and good luck. Once you have provisional c and that medical its theory and hazard to get out the way.

For me once I had my medical done forms sent off and new licence came back within in a week so was very lucky in that respect.

Next I had my training school book my theory, hazard perception and module 2 and took and thankfully passed all 3 first time thanks to their bundled in training materials. I was then able to get them to book my module 4 and cat C training for October.

Now the medical is out the way it’s best to concentrate on the theory etc. A good school will guide you through it all effortlessly, It’s part of what you’ve paid for, the advice and their expertise. A good training provider will be only happy to help
