Me and my big mouth

First of all hat off to you.

Second I don’t think that anything with the the twin splitter really gives an appreciation of older lorries,it is simply too quick changing. It needs to be a bit more challenging, ie a real plodder with a six speed constant mesh 'box and not too many horses, so that the driver really has to read the road and see just that slight easing of the gradient a hundred yards ahead, which will allow the vehicle to pull the next gear, or alternatively hang on to the gear in use because of the approaching bend which will cause the trailer bogie to scrub off so many revs.

Only got one thing to say to you… The old military Bedford RL (aka. The Green Goddess), couldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding and the easiest way to get up a hill was to get everyone out to push! Hilarious.

Rather than the gears, though, remember the (lack of) brakes! There used to be the saying along the lines of ‘If you can SEE the roundabout, but you’re not already slowing - then you won’t make it round!’.

Happy days (?)

… or (gulp) the old AEC Matador - which the good old Army were still using when I was in. 30 tonnes GTW with a whole 95 horse under your right foot!

Or should I say, 95 (alleged) horse when it had left the factory some 30 odd years previously!

Boy, but you learned to read the b###dy road - and then some!!

Ok, ok, so I’m an old fogie. No need to remind me!

WARNING, NEWBIE ALERT!

What is an “Eaton Splitter”?

Sounds like something you’d eat. Or shag.

a pig of a gearbox,no problem going up through the gears ,coming down not so good if you could not get the revs right,i would class it as a synchro crash gearbox,if there is such a thing, seddon Atkinson stratos and foden had these boxes
