Doing my CPC course today. First one with this company. Will be the last. Yet another trainer that doesn’t know the Working Time Regs :open_mouth:

Does it really matter ? You only want a card for something Britain tried to opt out of & most take a 45 instead of a 30.

How come you finished this early?

And of course you raised this on the feedback form to give their management the opportunity to discuss it with you?

Still here… :frowning: wonder of smart phones

I didn’t say anything. I’m not going to have a stand up argument with someone. But I feel if you’ve had your course accredited by JUAPT, and every second is accounted for, how do mistakes like that get in.

Yes that was the error.

At least I could keep track of the Arsenal.

Hi F-reds,

One way of finding out what’s correct is to ask the instructor a question to clarify it, but I’m guessing you did that?

What was so wrong about what was said by the instructor?

F-reds:

Maybe you misheard something in the lesson due to your need to keep up with the Arsenal, or the (usual) instruction to turn off your phone at the start of the session.

I’ve no idea what took place, but I think you might have left yourself open to the suggestion that you misunderstood something in the lesson due to being distracted by stuff on your phone. Maybe?

Diesel Dave, my first rule is everyday is a school day, and I don’t pretend to be perfect. But when I was instructing, granted in a different field, I made ■■■■ sure if I was giving out information then it would be researched and correct.

He said after 6 hours other work or a mixture driving or other work that you would require a 30 minute break to continue. He used an example.

2 hrs drive
15 mins break
4 hrs other work

He then said you must stop for 30 mins.

Yes I know it’s a small point. But really. Out of purgatory now thank god. My other four courses have been done elsewhere, with a bloke I would HIGHLY recommend in comparison.

A cheeky check of the score on my phone isn’t going to hurt anyone now is it!!! I know, I know, think of the children…

Ps my other rule is ALWAYS leave yourself as open as possible

Oh wait, that’s in another forum…

Agreed mate, I try to learn something new as often as possible. In my case, I even enjoy it.

I’m not completely au-fait with WTD, and that’s why I don’t teach it.

One of my rules (for myself) is to always try to play as many home matches as possible.

Like I said the other four have been good. I reckon if you can learn at least one thing per session then it’s been of value. I can honestly say in this one I did not.

The chap was affable enough. But he was just working to PowerPoint slides. Very little expansion, but I suspect that was because didn’t have a HGV license so he didn’t have much real world experience. But he was at pains to tell us he had C1E. If I were a cynic, I would suggest he probably worked in the office at an agency so is and has been “in the game”, but not playing much on the pitch.

Probably got a free pre 1997 C1+E with car licence

It must have been an early start for you to be finished that early?

Where was the course held - Leicester?

Whereas the law says the driver can go another 2 hours then have a 15 min break

JAUPT do not accredit the content of a course

It does not do the trainers reputation any good when a law is stated incorrectly and that then leads the trainees to wonder if the rest of what they are being told is correct or not

Started at 8am, done at 4pm. Lunch was good, couldn’t fault that.

Exactly ROG.

I thought that JAUPT had to approve the course and it contents? Or is it just the topics they are going to cover, and not the slides/aids etc that they will use■■?

There was one point when he started reading from 4 or 5 slides and he was in such a daze that he didn’t realise he had already read from them verbatim before or morning break…

Just the topics and time of course

Think I got it - you posted the first post during the morning break?

Now we’re getting to the inherent faults in the periodic DCPC and the awarding body JAUPT, which nobody can lay at the provider’s door.

I think the issue that you’ve identified could have a couple of causes, but IMHO it’s most likely that the trainer wasn’t comfy with the subject material for one of several possible reasons. It wouldn’t be fair to speculate though.

When a course is submitted for approval, the actual content isn’t completely checked for accuracy, which IMHO is an own goal on JAUPT’s part.

Oh I see.

No teach I did that first post under the table

Yes agreed DD I think if JAUPT are accrediting these courses they should be fully checked.

I do think one session a year is helpful, and not to much to ask on behalf of the driver. But the problem is many people left it and left it meaning they had to squeeze it in. Surely it would be better make it like a MOT. You have it for 12 months, can do it upto 1 month early and have 13 months next time■■?

F-reds:

I also think it’ll all settle down to be that folks choose to do one session per year, but the qualification has to go on a mandatory five year cycle.

IMHO, The present rush has been exacerbated by those who put their heads in the sand and thought that the DCPC was going to go away. Everybody knows that they’d also have had to put their fingers in their ears and saying lalala at the same time for that to have worked, but did they listen■■? :unamused: :grimacing:

Yeah. There was one lady there today, who put her hand up when the trainer asked, “is this anyone’s first course?”

Not many Saturdays between now and September 10th…

I always was a naughty boy. That’s why I sat at the back of the class!!

Hi F-reds,

You have a very valid point there mate, cos the prices are likely to rise between now and Sept, so if it were me, I’d get some bookings made at the present prices.
