McBurney Transport

Are they still going? Had a couple of thier trailers seemingly dumped in a layby for the past 3-4 weeks now. Just seems strange to leave an asset sat at the side of the road for so long.

Yep they are saw a few of their units over the bridge yesdy

I see them every day

Regulars on the M5

Among others, they run ASDA deckers to the ferry every day but they have lost Tesco to maxi and Iceland to DHL which is what i am now contracted to do. They are always running to and from cairnryan, presumably. Stranraer too

You’d hear about it if McBurney went bust. But that’s seriously unlikely, its run by very shrewd operators

stranraer port has been closed now for about 18 months. the stena has moved to the other side of cairnryan villlage now.

Do they cross over the water to Ireland or just trailer swap at Stranraer?. Always wanted to know this

So why have they had two/three trailers left for 4 weeks in Sussex?

They do; crossed paths with many of them up the road doing drops both ways. Always governed on the quick side. Liverpool is a lovely place to visit too, they have a base there. How half of those lads sleep at night by the docks is a mystery to me.

The 3/4 trailers left in the layby for a month maybe different trailers.
It could be a change over point.
Maybe note the trailer numbers to see if it is the same trailers not moving.
Maybe a call to the firm in case they are stolen. But a firm like that would have trackers in the trailers.

Ive always thought leaving trailers in random laybys is madness. I’d call the company just out of courtesy as they’ve some very old trailers too that may not be tracked. Seems strange an operator like that leaving they in laybys.

the vehicles are certainly tracked , drivers are given “advice” as regards speed , engine idling , gear change (manual box) fuel consumption etc . as said earlier a very shrewd outfit , so would not be surprised to hear that trailers were tracked too .

They may have king pin locks on the trailers.
I see Paul Matthew theatre trailer in laybys with locks on.

You don’t say what type of trailers they are if they are euroliners then they are probably loaded with pre-cast concrete and for whatever reason have been unable to tip site not ready, crane broken down and rather than just there for a few days the drivers will drop the trailers then bounce up to where there are some standing trailers do a couple of days of work then come back down to tip them. used to happen regularly with a firm I used to work for when unable to tip

They’re either rigid or reefer units (was dark when I last passed) I can understand a few days, but getting on for 4 weeks?

Hardly,

they have 40+ new model Volvo FH (liveried up) parked@ Dennison Volvo Ballyclare NI :exclamation: :exclamation:

The local council or HA should charge them rent for using the layby as a yard if they’ve been there that long. With the number of trailers they have they MAY be lost off the system but more likely they have a reload location nearby which needs a specific type of trailer and they use the layby as a swap point. Got a fridge on but needs a curtain sider? There’s one in so and so layby.

5 of them at Andover co op tonight.

Pretty much every night there are loads of them in there.

That old boy on the gate at their Liverpool depot - Is he still there?

I never knew how to take him. I used to think he was a bit grouchy but maybe that was just his strange sense of humour.
