Mayor to block Port Of Calais

peterm:
Eerrm what the [zb] has me sympathising with ct’s head injury got to do with anything, and what’ve the aborigines got to do with me being here ?.. nothing ! You’re wrong, I can vote there if I want to, but can’t see what being able to vote or not has anything to do with being sympathetic to ct’s injury. Whatever you’re on, I’ll have some.

EX pats, you gotta love 'em !! Just like the doogooders and bleeding hearts !!

Armed Police is what is needed, like at the airports , put me down i don,t give a hoot, they only wanna blow us up anyway, why does the UK/France/ Italy, carry on being so bleedin soft.

I’m on about ex pats like you being outspoken on immigration. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be but i hope you won’t mind me pointing out the apparent hypocracy. When you said above …

There’s refugees, then there’s this crowd of [zb]. Why indeed do they insist on getting to England / Australia instead of any other safe country. Doesn’t take much working out does it.

Its ok for you to go where you like, but not other people ? And in your case you’ve gone to Australia a country with an appalling human rights record. You said your head injury ended your working life, i’d also say its had a more deep rooted effect on you!!!

There’s a big difference between controlled migration and having an open-door immigration policy.

I think you’ve got that the wrong way around. As far as i know the UK has an open migration policy, i.e you can migrate to where ever you like. It also has controlled immigration policy, i.e you need to fullfill certain criteria before coming here.
It also has a policy, and is bound, for accepting refugees. And thats what most of them people jumping in the backs of lorries at Calais are, refugees. They are fleeing war torn countries. They do not appear to be labelled as “refugees” in the media though, they are labelled as “illegal immigrants”.
Now think about it for a minute. Everytime there’s an outbreak of war, the inhabitants of the country all seem to want to get here. Whats going on ? Do you think for examples the Syrians now coming here have suddenly thought…lets go to UK, i believe you get great benefits there ?

They are not refugees in the true sense of the word came through there this week most are men aged 18 to mid thirities surprising how many had mobile phones, if they are fleeing conflict as you believe where are the women and children? After all if you were fleeing conflict would you not ensure the female members of your family got out with you or are you like them who only think of themselves. One was interviewed by radio 4 on Thursday reckonend he had an engineering degree well in that case stay where you are and help to make your country a better place rather than comming to the UK and working as a slave labourer in some sweatshop first case I have heard of where engineers are a persecuted minority in Africa

Since when has Calais been in a war-torn country?

I didn’t think Calais was a war torn country. There must be something about France refugees don’t like as i notice that a lot of Jewish refugees in world war two never stopped there either, they came here. Wierd eh ?

The guy interviewed was from Africa last time I looked Syria was in the Middle East but my point is to many are heading to Europe for economic reasons whereas if they are as intelligent as they say they would have us believe then surely they should be improving the lot of their own country have nothing against true refugees but the ones you see in Calais are in the main economic.

Surely the mayor of Calais should be pressurising the French Govt to put pressure on the EU for funding
1 to control the issues in Calais
2 to deal with the original problem, i.e. the borders of the EU not being controlled properly.

The problem is not just down to France and the UK it is a EU responsibility to protect the borders.
Isn’t that responsibility one of the reasons we pay so much to the EU coffers?
Ant queues of people wanting to claim asylum should be at the points of entry into the EU, not at one of its furthest outposts.

Suedehead:
Waste of time sending in the troops imo.
Bomber command though . . .

+1. Let’s see the Vulcan used for something a bit more than flypasts at village fetes. :sunglasses:
I saw a Big Issue seller today, clearly not from European shores, irritating the passing public with, “Big Issue, Big Issue , Big Issue?” I wouldn’t give them the sweat from my arse. Failed asylum seeker or illegal immigrant, they are of no use to our society. If we can’t prove where they’re from, then we need Stalag Luft style camps built for them until their memory returns and they reveal where they’re from. Then we spend some of our tax money and give them a one way ticket courtesy from us all. Any lentil munching yoghurt knitters who object can either leave with them or let them live at their house at their expense.

What a load of bollix. Firstly you’re telling me that I shouldn’t voice an opinion because I emigrated, legally I might add, and then you go on to tell us all that most of these people really are refugees. You really ought to put up the paperwork from the research that you must have done to back up what you say.

I’ll say it again; genuine refugees of which we in Oz and the UK have plenty of, are more than welcome. It’s those that want to get in through the back door via who knows how many other safe countries is what we’re talking about.

TP1.jpg Next stop Calais!
It would be funny if it wasnt true. :unamused:

if there were 350 of them thashing about in the sea, then the least I could have done was throw them a few lifebelts, some persil, and my washing… the got a big hook to lift out my washing…

green456:

raymundo:
A few years ago I was taking a ship to Deliskilesi in Turkey and when passing to the south of Sicily a message was broadcast that a refugee boat with approx 350 people on board had been wrecked under the cliffs and that people were in the water, ‘all ships in the area please respond’ very strange that most shipborne radios went very quiet … including mine I must add !

don’t think I could leave leave 350 people to die, no matter where they were from

Calais Taliban problem solved as follows…option 1 prove to us where you come from so we can ship you straight back there …or…option 2,a nice shower, then welcome to the land of free giros…or am I the only one with this opinion.? :smiling_imp:

The Major of Calais wants to block the port, until the British government do something?
Can you blame her, Calais is infested with people wandering the streets, sleeping rough and generally causing problems for them, but The French government, sitting happily in Paris or the British government in their ivory towers in Westminster, aren’t doing anything to help them.
She shouldn’t be vilified by us, she’s our ally against politicians who care little about us and illegal immigration or even legal mass migrations of workers, after all it doesn’t effect their wages or social condition, in fact it’s advantageous for them and their wealthy business owning friends. .
And why shouldn’t we help, we already have our Border Agency operating in their country, which means when they find somebody in a truck they’re kicked back into Calais, if they Border agency was operating in Dover when they found somebody they’d already be in the UK, ready to disappear into the restaurants and sweat shops that employ them.

I’m sure most of those that get here never claim asylum, unless they’re caught. instead they are brought over as cheap labour, they are no doubt lured here by riches they’ll never see. The problem not helped when they are caught here, they are told to report to a police station once a week, until they’re deported. Like that’s going to happen!

Maybe we need more detention centres, if you’re are caught or claim asylum then you stay in one until your claim is dealt with. I’m all for them being comfortable, decent places, with education facilities etc.
If you’re escaping from war or oppression, then why should you complain, you’re safe and being looked after.
We also need more Border Agency staff, both working at the borders and raiding businesses that employ illegal immigrants.

But this come with a massive price tag, and it’s mine and you taxes that would pay for it, where would you put the detention centres, I’m sure they’d be plenty of local opposition.
Are you willing to vote for the party that says they’ll put your tax up to do this?
But maybe in the long run it will reduce the numbers of those trying to get here, as word will get back and the traffickers will realise they can’t get a cut of the wages these people get, (think of them as agencies).

Also does the rest of Europe need to re-instate border controls, is the totally free movement of people an experiment that has failed?

spot on

Drive every truck through a gas chamber before loading onto a ferry (after first removing the driver). That will get rid of every kind of rodent then…

Those that cannot LEGALLY work here, offer zilch benefit to this isle of ours, so best to remove them at source…
