Why choose to do a 15 hour day x 3 every week when you would get paid exactly the same for doing a 13?
There is one thing being conscientious and another thing being stupid that’s the way I see it.
Why choose to do a 13 hour day when you would get paid the same amount for doing 8 hours?
Good point…,.what I should have said was the word ‘maximum’ after 15 and 13.
We’re guaranteed 40 hours/week after break deductions, but go over 40 hours and we are paid for it. Quite a few of our drivers are happy with 40 hours and the bonus of an early finish.
If you work more hours than you are salaried for you might be getting less than the minimum wage gov.uk/minimum-wage-differe … ual-salary Link to check halfway down page…ARE YOU OWED MONEY?
The company I used to work for paid a flat day rate. If you were one of their favourites, or if you bitched, complained and kept knocking back work, then you would be done within your 10 hours. Anyone else was run ragged, given extra work at the last minute, or constantly had their work changed which always made your day longer.
Even on days when you had no work or your vehicle was off the road, the boss would have you come in at 6 and wouldn’t let you leave until 3 as he wanted to get his monies worth even if you were sat around doing nothing!

Following on from a comment on the ‘‘Lovely Boss’’ thread (which has been ''Carryfasted … so I’ve started a new one )
Why do you do it?..maxing out on a salary, every week?

Because in general haulage they’ll get the sack if they don’t. I’ve yet to have a contract of employment which doesn’t have a clause in stating that I must comply with any reasonable request.
Another point is if you’re at somewhere like where I drive where your salary is based on a certain number of hours a week. Whatever you do over that amount per week is banked and you can take the time off you’ve banked so in theory you could do max hours every week and bank so many hours you only work 7/8 months of the year, the rest of the time sat at home still getting paid on banked hours or holiday pay.
If you’re working 48+ hours week in, week out - you’d be better off on agency.
Being salaried tends to make one lean towards a more “job & knock” and “minimalist” work culture.
If you get paid the same for skiving about, and putting in 30-40 hours for a salary, then you’re gonna be against agency working - aren’t you?
Methinks I’ll avoid going back to full time employment now - until I find a workplace that offers a 35-40 hour week for that salary, with OT available, and ideally a four-shift spread.
Not available? - I’ll carry on being paid by the hour until it IS then. No worries!
As an hourly paid worker you should try double manning with a driver who’s on salary, then you’ll see if there’s a job and knock culture at that that firm, and woah betide the backlash if if you mention stopping for a 45 coz your not It paid for it either
