Max hours planning and not being paid

Told we had no planner in yesterday only clerk so to contact another depot for instructions, when I got back the planner was at his desk  When I said I thought he wasn’t in he said he’d had to come in to help out as clerk was new and it was too much to expect him to do job.
But he said he wasn’t getting paid for comming in as he’d reached his max 60 hrs work for the week and the company would not pay wages over 60hrs( I did suggest he’s not booking enough poa, always quoting it too us   ).
But is he right,is there a maximum working week of 60 hrs in a t.o  ,thought they could do what they want,if it is legal should he be at work then,I wouldn’t come on a Sunday for nothing,I wouldn’t come in any day for nothing but a Sunday ,crazy.bet the company loves him though.

WTD of 60 hours per week is for mobile workers only. He is being screwed.

Assuming that the company operate a 5x12 hour shift patten, which seems a bit excessive to me, then it sounds like their not paying him, in which case I wouldn’t have come in. He is in effect giving his labour for nothing, in which case the company are going to let him do it, unless he’s got some other arrangement in place with them, ie: another day off at some point.

Ken.

Wtd applies to all workers it is a max of 48 hours average week and 13 hours off in any 24 hour period. You can choose to opt out of it though, unlike lorry drivers who are covered by the rtd.

They do 4x12 hr shifts a.f.a.i.k but I’d guess he’s done a extra shift as other planner on days must be off on holiday, sick to get to the 60 hrs he’s on about.
I’m assuming yesterday would be his 6 th day of the week taking him to 72 hrs if he did the full 12 hr shift,I just thought there were no max hours in t.o,I’m sure in past I’ve heard of planners doing 10 days in a row to cover for other planners off.
He was the one who brought up the fact he wasn’t being paid but had no alternative but to come in as clerk was new and not fair to leave him on own.
But I just thought possibly 12 hrs on a Sunday for £0 :open_mouth: ,

Is this a wind up…!! I thought General opinion on here was office bods out the door at 40 hours!!

I can’t see it being anymore than company policy. Maybe he and his boss disagree about leaving the clerk to it, big boss says he’ll be fine and therefore doesn’t want to pay someone to babysit him, planner disagrees and doesn’t want to leave him in the ■■■■, maybe they’re mates?

I went out with my mate on his first run in a truck, I didn’t need to be there so I wasn’t getting paid, it was only a hour and half down the road on a Saturday morning.

In normal circumstances he would do 40 hrs( or 48 hrs,4x12 hrs), but I’m guessing other day shift planner is off so he’s covering for him, which is where the (5x12 hrs=60 hrs) or possibilly the ( 72 hrs 6x12 hrs ) comes in.
It just the fact he says he only gets paid up to 60 hrs( I assumed they could do what they want) and even though it seems his choice to come in and help out he won’t get paid,or at least he’s saying he wont

He has probably been offered a day off in lieu, anyone in this day and age that doesn’t know that they are just a number on the companies books is just deluded.

Sadly, I think you are right.

I don’t think he has been offered a day off in lieu because they told us not to ring our depot as there was only a clerk in t.o,we were to ring another depot if we had any planning issues which says to me as far a they were concerned there was no planner there to answer our queries we had.
I think he’s done it off his own back, but in a good hearted manner so not to leave new lad holding the fort, but if we were ringing else where for any planning issues then surely the clerk only had his job to do,or if any one rang with a query he couldn’t answer then he had just to re-direct them to the depot that was doing the planning for day.
Or bring a planner in from else where come to that for the day,I’m wondering if he’s not come in for free before and there now playing on it,don’t get cover in hell do it for free, and he’s soft enough to do it

That was my first thought to be honest,I did think it was nice to see someone who thinks about someone other than himself for a change( look after new clerk), but it still comes down to Sunday, possibilly 12 hr shift for £0 ,you’d have to think mug
