Max Height in Mont Blanc Tunnel

Been talking to a friend who runs a small race team, he’s got a race in Monza soon and wanted a bit of information about how to get there, costs, routes etc.
I think I can answer most of his questions except the maximum height of vehicles allowed through the Mont Blanc Tunnel. He has a 4.2m trailer. Haven’t managed to find the info on the TMB website either, I can’t get all the PDF files to open.

try ringing this no +33 (0)4 50 55 39 36 (F)it is the
French side of the tunnel and deals with customer service
on the web site they show STGO traffic is allowed 4m70cm

tunnelmb.net/v3.0/pdf/Reglem … 10-350.pdf

The French and the Italian regulations both show 4.20 with 4.70 allowed for CE. 2.55 wide, but 2.60 is allowed for fridges

Went through a few months ago and they said i was overheight , running at nearly 4.2m , i managed to dump my air and they let me through , as far as i know they will let you through over 4m but with an ■■■■■■ at an additional cost i presume so he should be ok. The height limits used to be on the TMB website but havent been able to find them recently.

Reading your link Wheel Nut and depending on how good my French is, it seems the standard max height is 4.05m and if the vehicle is between that and 4.2m it needs prior authorisation, but only needs one lane.
They ■■■■■■ fridges through don’t they  so maybe it could go through with them.
with that and Young Truckers experience maybe thats right. I think a phone call is in order.

Well 3 different people replied and I think I’ve got all the info I need. Thanks

Is Frejus not an option??

With a race team transporter don’t forget no race fuel or other HAZ on board.

He’ll be fine at Mont Blanc but may have to pay for an ■■■■■■ - it’s there to Monza he’ll have to watch out for the ‘rozzeris’

Thanks for the information. Maybe I’ll just tell him to go for it, but be prepared to pay for an ■■■■■■.
My experience with being stopped in Italy is they are quite happy to let you on your way after donating a cap or T’shirt.
I’ve seen them abandon a car they’ve pulled over to chase down a racecar transporter just to get a t’shirt.

I’ll also remind him about not carrying fuel.

It’s a lot easier doing it yourself than try and explain to somebody, who hasn’t been that way before. Not that I consider myself any sort of expert but he does most of his racing in the UK and uses volunteer truck drivers.

I’m also wondering, Why Mont Blanc ?
Hazardous loads go Frejus, so no problem with carrying fuel, if its in the correct approved containers.
I THINK its a bigger tunnel all together, at least fridges run through as normal and there’s no grief about a slight bulge in a curtain, like there is at the Blanc.

It’s probably a slightly longer route, but not by enough to worry about.

I always thought it was a bit of a big detour and Mont Blanc isn’t a problem for us so it’s makes sense for Monza, but just compared distances and it not to bad about 100km further. I’ll tell him it might be a better option.
I’ve not used it for years, since we stopped going to Imola.
Is there a control stop like there is at Mont Blanc? I don’t seem to remember stopping.

I only did a few trips through Frejus with hazardous loads and there was an extra charge.
With hazardous, we by-passed the usual waiting area at the bottom of the hill and went to a specific checking area right beside the autoroute, I couldn’t tell you where it was now though. After the paperwork was checked we went straight up to the tunnel and waited in the area to the right of the toll booths until there were a few wagons for going through together. I’m not sure if we were escorted, or if we just had to have an extra long gap in front and behind.

If it was a none-haz’ load, there was a large clearly signed waiting area before the last long climb up to the tunnel, then a toll on the tunnel. Other than that I don’t remember stopping either, but it’s been well over 5 years.

I think Most of the F1 teams And all support go through Blanc without any probs, dont forget to stop at the svs bottom of the french side to get ticket for emissions
