Maut online?

If one was to know ones destination in Germany(and entry and exit points off the autobahn),can the Maut be done online?Would one have to have some sort of printout,or would they,as I suspect, automatically know whos paid and whos not?

Never acctualy bought the maut online but it is possible to do and yes they would know automaticly that you have the germans know everything.dont they

Well,so they think.
Sorry no actually they do.
Thanks.

I bought a truck in Germany a few weeks ago & the dealer said it couldn’t be bought online and I had to drive to a local Shell garage that had a Toll Collect machine to pay.

He might have meant you need an online account, but that’s not what he said.

It can be done online but the company needs to be registered with Toll Collect first. I used to use that method a few years ago and when you make the booking you are given a reference number which you carry with you and provide if you are stopped in a control.

we have done that in the past, the reference number is about 18 digits long and you need to make sure you right it down correctly or are able to accept a text. The MAUT terminals are plenty though, and not just on the autobahn.

toll-collect.de/pdf/de/mauts … 74CF.app01

You can print these 89 pages off or just keep an eye out for the Toll Collect or MAUT signs.

Oh yes, and poke the screen on the ‘Union Jack’ and it all reads in English, which is great, untill you choose to pay by cad and that info is in German only :frowning: :frowning:

It’s the entnehmen bit that causes confusion. :stuck_out_tongue: Often see people standing staring at the screen when that pops up.

So how does the card payment thing work? We pay on out vehicle cards which is really easy but when my truck was new I had to pay with dkv and I’m buggered if I know how I managed it. Just kept pressing buttons!

It is just the same, you just choose between credit card or fuel card. I have seen some places on border crossings which are manned and you pay cash to a toll collect employee.

If you have an online account you can book your toll from an office PC, laptop or even mobile phone I presume.

The hardest thing is knowing how far you expect to get, although on longer journeys, they give you more than enough time to get a rest period in.

Put card in when it says Karte Einstecken and remove it when it changes to Karte Entnehmen. It then asks, in English, for you to confirm the transaction so you press the button with Bestätigen on it, the word is in green on the button so that’s a good clue it’s the right one. Next it asks you, again in English, to enter your PIN* and although the numbers are presumably in German on the keypad they are luckily enough the same as English numbers so no problem there. :stuck_out_tongue: You then confirm the PIN with the same Bestätigen button and that’s it.

*It might not ask for a PIN depending on the card you use. It does with some fuel cards but not with some credit cards.

Cheers coffee, I used maut machine for the first time on Monday at the shell just before Aachen, I was stuck when it got to the card part as I didn’t understand what it was saying on the keypad display, I ended up paying cash. I have written down your instructions for next time good job there’s more than one machine the amount of time I took.
