Been of for a few days but had to pop up to weston s mare yesterday on the way back going south on M5 just before J25 sign say Long Delays M4 Junct 19 to 20 now im thinking i know weve had some strong winds but im sure the M4 hasnt moved. So unless it was early warning if you were going to go off J25 and get back on going North. Any body else see it, I know we get some early warnings down here even saw one lit warning for something on the A14 once now I know that means you could change your route early but warning for the M4 after you have passed it new one on me.
Seen some really sad signs recently.
M6 Toll Split - To J4 1 Minute
M1 23a - To 24 1 Minute.
Yes, I’m aware there’s no delay to the next junction, I can bloody see it
Yes I also saw the signs southbound at Taunton. It does make you wonder if they even know what they are putting on these signs. Half the time they don’t tell you if there’s a real delay, and the rest of the time they put nonsense on there.
This week there was a sign on the M62 saying “SALT SPREADING”
Pity there wasn’t one that told me that the M1 was closed southbound less than 5 minutes away.
They regularly put up warnings in ■■■■■■■ warning of delays around j18 or thereabouts
In Glasgow they love putting up amber 50 limits in a mandatory 50 limit
Or like the Matrix signs I saw whilst travelling down the M40 South bound last night (Friday) between Junction 4 and Junction 1A which said “Exit to M40 Closed”. Errm… How do I exit onto a motorway that I’m already on? It was only when reaching Junction 1A (M25 Junc) that I realize what they really meant to say was “Exit to M25 Closed”.
Or how about the overhead gantry lane Matrix signs on the M25 (Anti clock) on approach to Junction 12 for the M3 2 weeks ago. The M25 is 5 lanes at that point, lanes 3,4 & 5 straight through and lanes 1 & 2 for Junc 12 M3. The entry slip to the M3 West was closed so they had put up the 800, 600, 400 & 200 yard yellow roadside boards to show lane 1 was closed off and directing traffic to use lane 2 for the exit slip. The cones are set up in a kinda chicane arrangement so as you enter onto the exit slip they throw you over from lane 2 into lane 1 for the M3 East.
So nothing out of the ordinary or surprising with all of that? Well except for the fact that on the approach to the lane closure the overhead lane Matrix boards were showing a ‘Red X’ over lane 2 and an arrow directing traffic through lane 1 which was coned off
It’s just as well the Gatso cameras on those gantries don’t flash when you drive under a ‘Red X’.

Or the permanent one on the M4 has to head past Newport.
How about the signs that tell you how long it is to the a given junction…ie (23 mins to junction 4)
surely that depends what speed your travelling at.
others that make me smile…
“animals in road” …what sort? hedgehog or cow?
“on coming traffic in road” …which side of the carrigeway is all i need to know.
“take your litter home” …cant i put it in the works bin like i usually do?
“dont hog the middle lane” …who knows what “hog” means.
"workmen in road "… thats cause they work there.
vehicle abandoned ahead … no its broken down.
“watch-out for bikers” … when you spot one, who do you call?
“next services closed” …well you cant get off then, so how does this help?
“delays ahead” … yea, i would have already passed them, if delays were behind me.
when they call them managed motorways, do they mean managed by monkeys?
Nobody mentioned the top of the useless tree?
Those little signs in the central reservation that say FOG after you have spent quite a few seconds desperately trying to see what must be a really important warning (surely they wouldn’t have flashy lights for something unimportant) just to find out that the sign you could not see due to fog was warning you that the reason you couldn’t see the sign was fog.they always seem to be in the central reservation so maybe they are aimed at a specific stereotype. Blonde, female and driving a BMW perhaps?

I heard someone from HA say that they put those up because if they don’t,then people phone up and complain that it’s foggy and the warnings aren’t displayed…
OTOH, fog can be patchy and drift around, so maybe at some points the sign might not be in fog, but be warning drivers about fog ahead.
