Currently loading in the land of the concrete cow and had the pleasure of coming up the M1 n/b from the M25. So, usual traffic around Luton, nothing to get excited about, but as I pass Toddington I move to the new inside lane, I pass the Flitwick split and see that the matrix signs are set at 60 over all four lanes (h/s included), so bimbling up the h/s I come to the first overhead gantry which despite displaying 60 for the h/s States “hard shoulder for emergency use only”. I dutifully move back into lane one until I reach the next one which displays “congestion use hard shoulder” I move back across until the next one which says… Yeah, you guessed it, every other sign giving conflicting information.
They wonder why people ignore them!
Edit to add; after the second conflicting sign I just stayed in lane one despite the 60 sign being lit over all four lanes.
They do my head in on the m62,they pop up for no reason and everybody instantly slams on ,when it says use the hard shoulder nobodys does apart from me
The M62 smart motorway is infuriating though, no sooner do you move on to the hard shoulder it filters off to a junction and if it’s busy it can be tricky to move back to lane 1
They have covered a sign up with plastic bags and string on the clockwise M25 between J26-J27.
It was showing the two inside lanes were closed and was causing queues at the weekend.
Obviously not turning off so some good old fashion improvisation has taken place.
Well done to who ever thought of that.
The matrix signs clockwise on the M25 have to be some of the worse. The speed limit changes a lot (as expected I suppose ) but because there are speed cameras littering the place behind the gantry’s , everyone slams on. Heaven knows why there hasn’t been more accidents.
You can also guarantee a sign on the M4 going westbound will say “Fog” in bright sunshine

I remember coming back from London last week and it had 40 mph signs. Now off the top of my head I couldn’t recall the traffic report saying any incidents.
I couldn’t help but feel it was causing an artificial traffic jam to prevent the chances of high speed collisions at peek hour
Similar issue at Enfield section off the M25 about 8 this morning. Queue back to halfway between 27 and 26, get to the tunnel at gate 25, the matrix has an arrow pointing for traffic to move to the right out of the driving lane(lane 1), so everyone is doing as instructed, next one has red X over lane 1, then as the gate 25 on slip joins the anti clock carriageway there’s national speed limit signs across all 4 lanes 5 to 6 miles off queuing for nothing

Apart from those collisions at the rear off the queue, as moving traffic piles headlong into the standing traffic
