An old school pal of mine sent me these. He was a steam loco fitter at Rowsley Shed (17D) until made redundant and then went to Laportes Cavendish Mill. Perhaps some Peak District forumite might recognise some of the drivers…

I’m sure Permanite and The General Asphaltic Co.have been mentioned on the Peak District thread; I can’t remember where they were. The Internationals were ex Army with petrol engines, later converted to diesel.

Laportes…

I used to have some of those pics Chris but must have left them in a truck when I finished work. Permanite are still in Cawdor quarry and the chap stood in front of the International is (I am pretty sure) ■■■■ Lowe who began MT and who’s sons still run it. One of my neighbours and also a pal of mine drove for them when they ran the LAD cabbed Dodges. George Lowe offered me a job a few years ago which involved driving a Clydesdale four wheeler, no sleeper cab, and leaving Matlock on a monday and returning on saturday with a load of China Clay plus finding my own work inbetween. I politely turned him down as I was earning more driving a local eight legger for TILCON! I did eventually work for him…I painted the toilet on his caravan site ha ha!

Pete Is this restored Dodge from the the same outfit
John that Dodge is owned by my mates lad Nigel Wilde, it was previously in a red and blue livery with Nigel’s own name on it, but he repainted it a year or two ago. He lives just up the road from MT’s depot at Darley Dale, but it wasn’t one of their lorries though. The Dodge is fitted with a Leyland engine and dates from (I think) 1958. Nigel also has a Dodge K series unit with a Perkins V8 fitted, it is in BJ Waters livery and tows a dropframe trailer usually with his dads old Nuffiel tractor as a load.

Thanks for that Pete I will look out for them during the coming show season.I agree with you that its around 58/60 that is when they had the badge motif on the radiator flap and the letters spelling out Dodge were only about 1 inch in size, later they fitted the badge on the grill panel and made the letters larger also they had a type of bar confirgeration on the grill as in the photo below
