i was once on a coach on a day trip to the motor show at the NEC ,on the way back the driver was falling asleep at the wheel for a few miles on the A14, it wandered onto the hard shoulder then drifted out again .Nobody did anything just gripped the seat in front and braced themselves, eventually he slid open the window and the fresh air woke him up. in hindsight he was probably a driver who did school runs and now hes driving a long way and at night hed usually be in bed by 9

I am surprised. You seem to forget that I drove coaches as well but only latterly and minimally compared with trucks. I treated my passengers just the same as you but I must say I drove to the same standard when driving trucks. Why should it be any different. A wagon weighing over 40 T can do as much if not more damage than a loaded bus.I really am surprised at all these great drivers you see, and never any bad ones. You do drive in the UK?
Perception can vary of course. Stay safe.
I had no idea you drove coaches, how would I know that? I find it odd that you wouldnt know the difference in the driving styles in comparison tbh. I am not talking from a safety issue but from a style of driving as I have explained. I have mixed with lots of other coach drivers and always have the same conversations with them regards driving, anyway you may be perceiving me wrong but I assure you I take my job seriously and drive to a standard that I am proud of. My greenroad has a score of zero safety issues with only 1 minor for taking a roundabout too quickly, this was bs as the roundabout was huge and if driven slower would have resulted in me being a hazard rather than anything.
My tuppence worth - I was class 2 for 16 years and currently 1 year on class 1.
I was ill prepared for real life driving artics. The lessons are of no use in the real world, reversing in particular.
It was my fellow drivers who taught me what I needed to know. I rarely needed to ask for help as it was clear from my poor reversing attempts that I needed help and someone would always approach. I did kind of invite it with my hands on my head etc [emoji1]
And I must add, in all my years of being overtaken on the motorway by coaches, 99/100 times they thank you for flashing them in. Never actually met any coach drivers but they’ve always been very courteuous with me [emoji106]

Observation, observation. Go back to your 5 week update thread , I was there.
I don’t think I am misunderstanding you at all. You take your job and driving seriously. I like that.
All I was saying some drivers that think they are good when they are not. It’s usually down to their poor perception or possible complacency. Seen it so often.
Just so you know (if you are interested, most are not. ) I drove lorries for 20 odd years ,best job driving petrol tankers in London.
Also did about 20 years in training doing LGV/PCV and more.
As I said before my coach driving was just before I retired but I thoroughly enjoyed the change and enjoyed the passengers as I said on the other thread.

Everyone used to flash everyone in… in the good old days and most thanked with s/lights on/off. Better than indicators/hazards flashing everywhere.

Apologies, yes you did mention it, it wasn’t something that I registered at the time.

very rare to be able to turn your lights on and off nowadays without cutting your engine with your ignition switch.
