Mass Exodus

The place where I used to work have had 3 drivers put their notice in this week, previously they lost 4 drivers in as many months. We all realised we could earn the same/more without handballing, nights out, 15 hour days etc (the long serving driver/jobsworth says we’re all lazy for doing so  ).
Anybody else worked somewhere where a load of drivers just upped and left at once?

Yep, the last place I worked at 50% of the drivers left the same day as me! :open_mouth: There were only two of us driving there though so maybe that doesn’t count?

Pete.

On our 1st day back 5th January 5 lads handed there notice in and a further 4 have left since and I no a couple more who have got interviews in the next week or 2

Must be something in the air. We’ve lost about 5 drivers recently too, a couple of them were long servers.

Loads of jobs out there now so it’s only to be expected. We’ve had about 25 (long servers too) leave since Xmas but the boss says he’s not bothered because he can pick up someone else’s cast offs!

The mass exodus often happens if a new RDC or similar opens in an area where there hasn’t been one before.

Had a few leave mind they soon realised they had made the wrong move.
The new place kept messing about with the shifts etc …

A few of my ex employers are off tipper driving.

Expressions like " the grass is always greener " and " all that glitters " spring to mind !! .

The place where my son was made redundant 4 years ago has gained some more work, but is losing drivers, can’t keep 'em.

dunno about here in the uk but in France they is queuing all around the docks :open_mouth:

I think that since Sept 2014 drivers’ expectations are rising and they are more likely to move for better pay/conditions, its now up to haulage industry to up their game which will take a major change of attitude for some and not before time.

I’ve heard of 6 leave in a week, they were replaced soon after-Every driver can easily be replaced, remember that:!:

Its not often I agree with what Pimpdaddy says , but in this case I agree 100% .

We had all but 2 drivers leave my place, myself and one other rode out the rough patch.
ended up with a quite tasty pay rise, better hours and a bonus scheme. Our TM has said he’s had a couple of the lads begging to come back. But we gained quite a strong driver team with the new staff so its a case of join the cue boys.

How can that be possible

2 drivers but you left = 1 remaining, but then you say 50% of the drivers remaining also left = half a driver remains :open_mouth: (must be an agency bod)

Before Maritime took over Roadways late last year there were about fifty odd sub-contractors and a substantial amount of their own drivers. I believe they have about eight sub-contractors left, and as of December last year at least 21 of their own driver had left. Those figures may be corrected upwards. I have never known anything like it. Nor such a blinkered and arrogant company. Anybody know of similar happenings in their respective depots?

The change is starting as is said many will retire leaving a mass shortage there will be more more leaving as tbh the monies offerd for such a roll with a lot of responsibility for 8 something an hour I’ve just started and allready I want to get class 1 as monie is so bad I know I have to get experience. Cpc and all those things make the roll more harder to get mod 2 initial cpc for some one who has not studied its hardbi got 41 out of 40 and just passed. For some one just coming into this it’s hard work 7 exams before you even start your experience the all the cons like nights out and highly policed job tahco minefields when I think about it I’m mad it’s cost me 3k just to get class 2 but the way I see it is classrooms are empty when I did my initial cpc mod 4 lol only one there. There was ment to be up to 15 in the training for this. Hgv is not a desirable job for people my age (26) in fact out of every one I know 1 person has the licence also you gamble you spend 3k and actually can’t drive the truck you loose the monie all this with the dribble of applicants coming through will create a mass shortage in 10 years time and in that time I will be getting well experienced and take the best jobs over the people who are running to get the licences as hgv drivers salerys grow to 70k lol

Simple! There were two of us driving, me and the boss, I left so that was 50% of the drivers gone in one day. Didn’t mention anything about the remaining driver getting cut in half? The following year he called it a day as well and was still in one piece when I saw him at Christmas!

The place where you used to work…The flour suppliers? They are in full flow. I know cos’ I watch them leave and come back almost every day. :unamused:
