Martintrux or eagle wings

My stepdad worked for Eaglewing in the 70s, i used to go to Italy with him.
Its great to see that old picture of the F88, i have asked my mother if she can remember who the driver is.

I also remember all the trucks had a girls name on the drivers door, perhaps Stobart’s copied them

My Dad drove for Martintrux from 1977 until he got busted in Dover by Customs for having rather too much Old Holborn under the trailer floorboards !!!, That was December 1979. He mainly ran Belgium, and Holland but he did Italy and Switzerland and Spain too i recall. He got busted on the Thursday night, spent all day Friday with Customs, Came home and got sacked on Saturday, and was shipping out again for JC transport on Tuesday. It Cost my Dad £1200 in Fines, A Fair few quid in them days, and Customs offered him the Baccy if he paid the £600 odd duty as well. It cost Martintrux £1200 to get the Motor and trailer back from Customs. I think he used to stop at the Fina garage in Zeebrugge to Fill up !!! but it was 1979 and a totally different world to now eh ! The motor he drove was an Old 110 Scania Day Cab OPU640M, i wonder if its still about or if anyone has a picture of it

Hi Buster seems ok. I think across the 2 MTX posts you,ve got most of the photos, a few posted over the last couple of years may still be there. I have been looking for your email address but i,ve sent you a pm as i,ve got 14 pages of emails to sort through. Anyway if for any reason you want me to email the photos to you [ some of the first posts were scanned 3 at a time] please let me know and i,ll try and send them to you. In just over 2 weeks i,m off to the Philippines for 7 months, van sold almost everything else taken care of, so i will have a bit of time. Regards to you and Dad

Thanks Johnny, dad will be so pleased when he sees them pics, another trip i’ll get off him down memory lane and his back in the day quotes, and how the jobs so easy now lol, have a good time out in the phillipines, once again many thanks

Does he have a brother by the name of Gordon? Oh come on, somebody was bound to do it sooner or later :open_mouth:

If my good friend Gary Richardson is correct the F88 in this picture finished up at Feblands in white and blue livery and I took the poor little thing over Mont Cenis heavy, heavy loaded with chemicals, she worked so hard that she refused to come out of stick at the top and I had to stay there overnight while she cooled down.

Happy new year Buster. As promised a few more pics.I knew of Eaglewing but didn’t realise they dabbled in M/E.Hope they’re of interest.

Hi all: I was “reliably” informed that the guy is non other than a very young Chris Hooper !
Whether that is true or not … we won’t know until someone can confirm it. I for one think it is him. Theres is a good likeness.
It’s another one of the many amazing Middle East “stories”…and I luv 'um all
