Just been driving up through spain and france. I was struck by how few british trucks there are on the roads. I then came across 3 of Marshalls, the veg people in the services south of Orleans. The 3 of them all had the curtains pulled in mid morning. It struck me how unusual it was to see some own account trucks abroad, i presume they are there own and not a hauliers in there colours ?. Why would they do that then, you would of thought they could buy there transport in much more cheaply ?.
Cheap transport often means less efficiency, sorry
but they probably have had so many problems with
subbies, that they now say own transport is better and
in the end can not be beaten
They’ve run over there for years. The have (or had) a packhouse south of alicante, La Roda I think it was, we used to sub out of there for them years ago. They run their own packaging & crates down take 24 off & run back to Butterwick with their own produce. They had some good lads on there in the past but I’ve been off the continent now since 2001 so can’t say anymore.

here here i drive for belkin and we deliver our own products all over europe. there are 10 of us and we give away about 3 or 4 times as much work to outside trucks.(mostly foreign registered). we know that they can do the job cheaper than us and its always a worry that the powers that be will go for the bottom line and decide that they don’t need us.
Agromark i think there sister company in Spain. Maybe wrong. But they have been going to Spain for years back when Univeg existed when they took that over. when in season for the veg there. Brought there own SOR trailers back last year. Dont know what the score is there now was a thread on them on uk forum as there transport has been took over by Solstor i believe.
