If you can manage a shorter term it is better as you will pay back less. It was 15% down Rob :frowning:

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

that’s a bit steep on the interest rate there Kev :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

the bloke i used could have got you a much better rate than that :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Does he not mean the deposit was 15%?

Either way, he’s getting bummed! That means he’s paying £14k interest on a £34k finance agreement, it almost makes wonga.com look attractive.

The other thing is that I would never, ever, buy a truck over the phone, I would always insist on a long road test and a couple of hours looking it over with the cab tipped over before I even began to discuss terms.

It absolutely baffles me that people will spend so much on something without even seeing it.

Bought my FH over the phone having never seen it before, I’d paid for it before I’d sat in it. If your good with cabs tipped up you should be a fitter Chap…

But surely you would agree that given the choice of inspecting a vehicle before buying it and not inspecting it, inspecting it would be better?

Depends on what you’re buying and who you’re buying it from I suppose. If you’re buying a 3-5 year old motor thats come from a respected operator with a decent history of regular maintenance , and you know what work its been on, then you will rarely find any nasty suprises when you get there.

Buying an old nail for £10-15k is always going to be risky however …

I hear what your saying Mr Monk but I remember test driving an FH16 for an hour pulling my overalls on & getting under it checking everything & it turned out to be one piece of pure grade A ■■■■■■ Bought G23 ALY over the phone having never seen it either. I’m at a loss nowadays you car’nt see inside an engine or a gearbox so whats the point. OK have a glance around see its in one piece but all that lets you know is its right aesthetically, so whats the point. None of these modern lorries are oil leaking boilers that your looking at, if you was shopping for an F12 or an old Scania then yes but a Version 2 FH or a new style MAN see if its from the right home & take your chances.

Version 1 flew to Denmark drove it about, had it over a pit, poxy thing cost a fortune, version 2 rang the geezer up transferred payment picked it up when I was passing, not an ounce of trouble. Simples if it feels right buy it.

30 k take a chance ! wow brave very brave indeed

If you dont open your eyes you must open your wallet.

In a way he is right, i have bought plenty of used from volvo used trucks without never seeing them, its having the trust in the dealer should anything go wrong, had no problems yet… must have spent plenty i have bought about ten from them…time is money, see it send it, do a bank transfer and wait for it to turn up.Interesting this actually, i bought one new truck and the rep was telling me, there is two sorts of buyers, first comes out, checks the new lorry out for any minor scratch or the slightest problem, the other just says thanks very much ,park it up in the yard do you want a cup of tea?It amazes him, but at the end of the day its just a work tool really.

i was given a price for a brand new stralis middle of last year, £71,000 :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

that was just for the truck, didn’t include R&M, i was too busy laughing to ask about the cost of that

Im sure that i heard they are doing three yrs r and m included, still would want the other two covered… they have that eev fuel thing going on at the min, reckon we will be seeing a lot more on the roads later, not at 71k though, i paid 72 for my man xxl with lots of toys and that was too much, wouldnt have another of them… reckon an iveco wants to be circa 55k

a few years ago, when Maritime were selling off their 54 plate DAF XF SSC trucks, they wanted £49,000 for a basic spec high cab fleet truck with a 480BHp motor

at the same time, i could have bought a 530 SSC with ASTronic box, Kelsa Hibar & Eurobar with lamps, spoiler on the bottom of the bumber, driving lamps and fog lamps in the bumper and spoiler, Alcoa polished alloys, batteries moved to the catwalk, twin stainless Eminox upright exhausts, twin S&B high cap diesel tanks, full chassis infill, microwave, TV and air con pod, all that at £44,000

BUT NO HE WENT BOUGHT THAT BIG BLUE THING INSTEAD :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
how can anyone take this man serious

How can anyone be taken serously who considers a DAF!!!

Last October Maritime asked me 68k for a 10 reg MAN TGX 440bhp with virtually no warranty.

November MAN asked£72,000 for a NEW TGX 480bhp with better spec with 3 years full warranty.

NO CONTEST

I’ve spoke to the shipping lines and have always been to told to ring A NAME, and they are always for one of the big companys (macintyre, maritime, goldstar etc)the only shipping line that i found that runs trucks was oocl, and i maybe wrong but i get the impression that there is a lot of handball on that job.no wheel turny no money.

lee mat:
Is it as easy getting the work direct from the shipping lines as it is working as a subby for maitime goldstar etc

If he paid it off in a year he probably put between 50% and 75% down.

pavaroti:
What about subbing for freightliner? Some of the subbies at Coatbridge been there years. I know one happy fella there brought a daf for 20k paid it off within the year he claimed, doing alright for himself so it seems. Five years plus he’s been there same old daf doing him proud.
