Maritime , why have they

started to put a load of basic Axor’s on the road ?

They are one of the few firms that always gave the driver a " top of the range " equipment along with the comforts in-cab . This kind of thing should of course IMHO be the norm these days , but alas , most gaffers aint bothered . As long as the load is delivered and they can send out an invoice that’ll do . I would say , apart from the obvious factors , the truck would personally play a major part in making my mind up if I was lucky enough to have a choice of companies to drive for . Decent equipment should also help driver retention surely ? I’m not sure I’d be happy parking my Axor next to my workmates Topline /SSC / Actros every weekend

So why this move then . All I can think is that maybe they got them as part of a juicy deal involving tossco’s ?

Cheap deal think there only there till xmas was for tescos so i hear but they cancelled em so marmite took em

I saw a Fowler Welch Axor the other day too.

yea cheers Globby , thought it must be something along those lines

They are for the day and night drivers, you dont need a big cab to day run do you.

And they were meant for toscos but toscos didnt want them so marmite had them.

They are still set at 50 as well, milk floats!

Hours, salary, other benefits, job security etc, these are the important things to consider, best part of any job should be signing off and going home to your own bed and your loved ones, at the end of every shift preferably.

Axor, if its got a proper gearbox and not satans poxy design, is an underrated and thoroughly competent and durable working vehicle, i’d rather one of them than most others if offered the choice.

you are correct Lee . :bulb: ( I’d still want one though ! )

I see Arcese have started to use day cabs now as well :frowning: :frowning:

And Juddian

I did say " apart from the obvious " in my OP

Talking to a maritime driver in norcon leeds, and he said they were 3 at leeds on hire from tescos.

Sent from my iPad.

Maritime have proven that they have one eye on the future & I’d bet that in a year or so they’ll be offered in the hallowed pages of CM as a cheap way into ‘ownerdriverdom’ with a ‘nearly new truck’ & half the price of a Volvo, Scania or Daf!!!

Ross.

Well said that man .

the axors are here till xmas, only for day and night work, set at 49.5 mph, absolutely pointless when they send em from leeds to felixtowe or tilbury on nights, they are tesco trucks, but maritime not allowed to do anything to them,

I used to look up to marmite for having top end motors in their fleet but the axors from tossco hav killed it :frowning: They must be cheap because apparently tossco get BOGOF on them! Who knows…

You don’t need a big cab but you need something safe & reliable enough to get you home in 1 piece @ the end of the day…

Axors are ■■■■ trucks, you’re less likely to make it home to see your loved ones in the event of things going wrong than any other unit on the road, I could understand if you’d said an actros or something…

I can’t see the point of marmite going with this, surely with the sheer number of motors they’re running they could have gone to their dealer & asked for a good deal on some day/night motors, it’s a shame really…

Why? Because ■■■■ you, that’s why :open_mouth:

Told you that works everytime didn’t I?

We’ve got ten in tilbury. We’ve took 35 across the country. They were sitting in a field waiting for the new rainham depot to open. They will be operated by fowler welch when rainham opens. It was cheaper than hiring from ryder and we couldn’t get 35 new motors quicker than October

They won’t be hired from Tesco, Tesco don’t own any trucks.

How do you know what tossco own & what they don’t?

pimpdaddy why are they less safe and reliable how many drivers have been hurt in them?

Poor build quality I suppose, I don’t know, it’s something you’d have to ask merc… In the last 8yrs or so most fatalities amoungst us that I’ve seen/heard of have involved axors, I’m just skeptical about them as a result, last ones I drove were 54/55reg always in the garage with clutch & engine issues, no adequate lighting inside so no good for a night driver, seat is so set forward that getting to the pedals for the big & tall can be tricky(safety hazard in my eyes), the matress is so uncomfortable you can feel the springs up your arse when you lie on it, the thing doesn’t even come with air conditioning as standard-basically it’s a ■■■■ truck! If my Agy sent me to a job with an axor or a day cab id walk out & they know it, my life & safety is more important than some crummy outfit that don’t want to put decent motors in the road…!

Maybe they were just driven in bad places or driven by pricks, which you sound like btw.

I’ve never heard so much bull crap, how can a day cab possibly be less safe in day in day out running? The only things that really hurts in a truck is either falling over or hitting another truck (maybe also a coach / bus), don’t do either and you’ll be fine

Why…?

Recession…!!!
