is there any maritime drivers who could tell me what they are realy like to work on here, AS ive been offered a job to start at the felixstowe depot in a weeks time cab hopping, parking up at night, and how they run you, no ■■■■■■■ about please
i run out of manchester been there for 3 months now just been given my own motor and from what i can see there alright run dead legal everything by the book any damage to be reported etc
you can earn decent money all they ask is keep em informed all the time
on a word of warning though i stopped in felix last night and talking to a driver from there he said 11 new starts have walked out recently
if i was you unless your on a good number give it a go if you dont like it look for something else
I work out of Fxto but on the coscon contract which is in a different yard in dooley rd. Been there 2 yrs + now and it’s ok not brilliant but ok . Now the bad news… The reason new starters are leaving is because no one else is at the moment we’ve got cab hoppers with a year under their belts. Rather them than me…!! It’s come to a stage in fxto when drivers are realising the grass aint greener. So if your prepared to cab hop for the duration go for it you can earn a decent wedge… But if not steer clear
What is cab hopping…?
It’s a job at the end of the day. Go for it and see if you like it.

What is cab hopping…?
Different motors all the time, dont have your own etc.
I thought that was standard, I guess some have it sweet in some of these jobs…

Not normaly standard if you are tramping. We all have the same motors at our place

you are basically driving the regular drivers trucks that have phoned in sick or you are covering drivers that are on holiday, if you are based at the northen depots, ie here at leeds or immingham, manchester, liverpool, maritime will send you to which ever depot to cab hop

If you live in it you should have your “own motor”.
Just noticed the maritime advert and it quotes ‘These positions will require nights out on a regular basis’.
So are they looking for trampers or day drivers? or something in between?

They probably don’t know themselves…11 drivers walking out says it all really…
Not worked there but worked for Johns brothers. Spoke to many maritime driver when see them at Bridgend and they all seem happy and John is def the better of the 3 looks after the boys with good kit and treats fairly from what I have been told. Think with a lot of large companies nowadays can expect to cab hop for a while
Worked for them out of Manchester / Leeds.
Job was ok, container work usually pretty easy, pays well, trucks (most) have a microwave and fridge, cab hopping can mean going to other depots, I did Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, but another lad from Liverpool did a week at Thamesport (Kent).
Some planners are barely out of nappies and haven’t a clue, some are ok. Management can be ok, but also can be complete ■■■■.
Wages are ok to good depending on what you expect, it’s long hours on an easy job with nights out, take 500 + a week home. You can earn more, but you’d have to EARN it.
Why do firms cab hop when the truck has not been used overnight? (hot seated)
If the truck is sitting in the same place you left it when you got back, why give you a different one the next day?
Especially if you liked it! eg: familiarity can only bring better driving, fuel consumption etc
