maritime job

hi is anybody know which agency supply maritme witch drivers?

None

There was an interview in c/m mag a few week ago and the boss of maritime said he did not and would not use agency drivers,he did say the reason for it but i cant repeat it or the agency blokes on here start getting arsey and throwing the teddy out of the cot :unamused:

I seem to remember years ago that the godfather of Felixstowe decided that no one in Felixstowe was going to use agency.

Bonus point if you can guess the godfather’s name!

No agency for maritime, instead they have spare drivers or cab hoppers. They fill in as and when required. They get an extra £50 for the inconvenience.

Thats why all the kit is clean and undamaged and all the drivers look clean, tidy and actually care about the job they are doing

Do you really like their colorful Volvo FHs?

Absolutely.

Unfortunately, not available to everyone, haha.

Cast your minds back to 2004, the self employed agency revolution was in full flight, every rdc was full of jocks and northerners on 1k a week. That left the likes of maritime fighting over the dregs that couldn’t pass the assessment at js or tesco. They put up with the odd spanked car, and lorry rolling back with the step bucket in the passenger footwell, but the straw that broke the camels back was a 6 month old daf getting rolled on the A16. When the news broke on that, John told every depot to recall every agency driver and send them home, regardless of where they were, and they’ve never driven the blue and white since

So what happens when a few drivers are on holiday or sick ? Park the truck up for a week ?

Are they a good co. to work for then on the whole?

Or they could have paid the going rate at the time…just saying.

They were paying the going rate conan, but everyone was chasing the supermarket work for the weekend night work. As we know, that work had an open cheque book. The trucks would lose money in the real world. Wouldn’t be cost effective for maritime to pay an agency £300 for a days work. And to answer bald bloke, the holidays are covered by new starter cab hoppers, if you go sick the lorry stands but goes out on nights instead
