Marble Slabs

Hi guys…Been told i have some marble slabs to shift on monday using A frames. Anyidea of best way to strap them down?

I thought strap round the marble and A frame to hold together then another couple of straps straight over top to anchor to the bed?

Cheers in advance, dont want to lose them or more importantly crack them off by using too much pressure on ratchet.

I wouldn’t worry about cracking them, would be thinking about using some corner protectors though, should imagine the edges are quite sharp.

I imagine what you really mean is using an A Frame Stillage like they use on glass.

I presume the marble slabs are already secured to the stillage with cables, straps or chains.

Cheers for that, just looked at wagon and it like them stillages “wheel nut” shows but without the padding! they are loading them onto it in the morning so they will be loose. Will get hold of some rubber from the yard for corner protection. woudl assume the more sheets together the easier it will be for securing as less brittle…yes thats the word i was given to describe marble and granite sheets…!!

as long as the straps are taught then we will be all good!

How did you get on?

hi all, I got on fine with the marble run yesterday  I asked the bloke loading if its easy stuff to break and he said unless its the thin marble u would do well to break it so it put me a little more at ease.

loaded sheets onto lorry, 4 each side of A frame. passed straps x2 around the marble and used corner protectors on all 4 corners. tightened up firmly but not too firmly  until it was taught then rolled rest of strap up and tucked under the ratchet to stop it hitting the marble when running.

Then i put 2 more straps over the top of marble using the same corner protectors and ratcheted down to the bed. All in all it was quite easy. One tip i did get is make sure the a frame is always taller than the marble/granite sheets that way you aint putting excess stress on the top of the sheets and strap as close to A frames as possible so the frames take some strain.

Thanks to all that commented and i was relieved when i made it to where i was tipping

Cheers
