Maps for Laptops

Just wondering if you can download maps for free to your laptop without the need to be buying autoroute and a gsm thingy. Do you guys have such a set up on your laptops ? cheers.

I have the latest map-point software (replaced autoroute) and a sat nav is 1000000000000 times better, stop being tight.

openstreetmap.org/ is probably the best alternative. Followed by Googlemaps
Though openstreetmap is usually read “online”. The “tiles” can be downloaded infact the whole world tile set is around 1.5GB
The Detail is very good

Sorry its not for me I have my atoz’s and sat nav I’m all sorted it its for my tight arse brother  He has one of those notebook thingys and wants to know if he can get maps put on it.

Mates got OS maps on his lap top beats carring the lot and better than satnav

You can get “Memorymap” which is basically the O/S maps, you are supposed to buy them from Memorymap themselves, but you can find them on the 'net to download for free.
If you buy a GPS dongle, you can then plot yourself as you travel. you can put “Overlays” onto the map with what-ever you want on.
We use them for Greenlaning, and mark up the various lanes etc, plot the route before hand and off you go!
