Maplin 24v kettle

Morning guys

Has anybody had one of these from maplin? http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/24v-kettle-n43ng

Debating on wether to go pick one up but would like some opinions first

Personally wouldn’t trust any kettles that plug into the cig lighter socket. They tend to melt after a few uses.

I’ve had one like that before, they haven’t got a switch? So you are constantly pulling the plug and it does it no good at all.
I got one from Chesterfield for about £25 with a switch and it’s spot on, it’s plugged in all the time and that makes them last longer.

Went and bought one got it price matched to £16, although upon reading a sticker inside the box it says a full 1 litre can take up to an hour :frowning:

Due to gas cookers being strictly banned at my place I have a couple of kettles, first one was £25 job from Alconbury, lasted 6 months then the on/off switch went so did a bodge to bypass the switch and it still works fine albeit without the switching off bit, so makes a good back up.

Couple of weeks ago I invested in a Waeco one from CDC (Orwell) £38 and as we have a special socket (bit like an audio socket but not the Hella type) and did notice when changing the ciggy lighter plug it was a very beefy one.

Both take about 10 -15 mins to boil 1/2 litre so not bad.

As mentioned avoiding constant removal of the plug can help or invest in a hella plug which are better than the ciggy lighter ones. Hella to ciggy converters are available but may not be as good as a proper hella socket due to the wobble aspect.

Oh and to preserve the element of the kettle I refill with cold water to cool her down quicker once tea cup/ flask has been filled.
Just my opinion.

I have had mine for over two years, when you buy it also purchase a spare plug, it does eat hella plugs, usually the outer brass connection becomes detached from the wiring connector inside. if it stops hold on to the two wired connectors and try to rotate the outer brass connection if it turns replace the plug. other than that no probs boil on.

Waeco.

Proper kettle on a gas stove. Takes about 3 minutez to boil the kettle. (Polished brass…)

Ffs we have drivers fitting 3kw inverters to run domestic kettles… microwaves…

And calling out break down because their batteries are â– â– â– â– â– â– .
