Manual Sheets on Tipping Trailers

Did some bulk tipper work a while back and really struggled with the manual sheet - was kind of thrown in at the deep end!

Was using a crane fruehauf trailer. I struggled to work out how to stop the straps getting caught inside the trailer whilst rolling back and also had an issue trying to get the sheet to roll back over the edge at the back end of the the trailer (far end from the catwalk).

I’m not sure whether that’s because it was an old trailer or I’m just lacking in know how!

Anyone able to post me an absolute dummies guide to opening and closing the sheet with every step and any top tips to stop me looking like an arse in future if I end up doing tipper/walking floor work again?

Cheers

Put a rope on middle strap wind sheet back chuck rope over tie it of to put back on pull sheet really fast and straps should drop down

Double up the end of the strap and put an overhand knot in it, that should shorten it enough to stop it dropping in the trailer

Just tell them that this is the 20s not the 60s and if it ain’t electric it stays open :open_mouth:

Ahhhh, I was throwing the rope first before rolling the sheet open. That would explain why it was nearly impossible to get the sheet closed again - wouldn’t it?

Trust me, that’s the ideal situation!!!

Any other general tips guys? Thanks for the replies so far
