i do a lot of stop start driving, most of my drops only take a few mins, but the entries are in 15 min blocks…do i need to record every stop as “other work”…
eg; i drive for 21 mins, make drop 2 mins, drive 15 mins drop 3 mins, drive 2 mins drop 7 mins…

I assume this is manual entries on printouts.
I think there may have been a misunderstanding here, until you get your new driver card the only manual entries you need to make on the printouts are for any work you did that could not be recorded on the digital tachograph by use of the mode switch.
You should use the tachograph just as you would if your card was inserted, all tachograph mode activities such as other work, break or driving are recorded on the VU just as they would be on your driver card if it was inserted, which is why you have to do printouts at the start and end of shift, it’s a legal requirement to do the printouts but it also saves you the trouble of having to write everything down because all vehicle activities are recorded on the printouts, so it’s easy for the authorities to see what you were recording whilst in charge of the vehicle.
The fist printout at the start of shift will show anything the vehicle has done before you started work and the second printout at the end of shift will show all activities until you finished work, by comparing the two it’s easy to see what activities you did whilst in charge of the vehicle, for instance when you were driving or took a break ec’t
When you do the printouts you should write on them your name or driver card number so the driver can be identified, you should also sign the printout.
You should also show on the printout any required manual entries for activities not recorded on the tachograph, for instance if you were away from the vehicle and unable to use the mode switch to record an activity such as other work whilst the mode switch was still on break, or time spent doing paper work and handing in keys after doing the printout at the end of shift or at the start of shift before taking over the vehicle.
Basically the same manual entries you are supposed to make on analogue tachograph charts.
Hope this helps
cheers…but i dont see the need for printouts when vosa can access all the data from the vu…and why the need for manual entries when the data is printed anyway…
they can tell when breaks are taken , other work and driving time…

Yes but without a driver card in the tachograph they can not tell who was driving the vehicle at any given time hence the need for printouts
i’ll rephrase that…i dont see the need for me to write on the back of them, except my name, driver no’ …all the info’s on the one i print at the end of shift…

Your Tacho only has three positions on the mode swith, it doesnt have a drive mode.
Drive, stop, deliver drive stop deliver etc and the time the wheels are turning is the time recorded as drive plus a minute either side.
No need to write anything on any printout, grids or reverse of cards

You don’t have to write anything on the printout except your name/Driver number and signature.
The only time you need to write a manual entry on the printout is if you do work without setting the mode switch to the correct mode, for instance if you interrupt a break and start working whilst away from the vehicle and cannot change the mode to “other work”, which is exactly the same as you’re supposed to do with analogue tachograph charts.
If everything you do in a shift is recorded on the tachograph and shown on the printout then you do not need to write anything on the printout except your name or driver number and your signature
right…i seem to have been misinformed by the bloke who was meant to explain all this…anyway, got my new card today so should’nt need to have this grief again
cheers again for the help
Sorry, don’t do mind reading, there was no mention of you waiting for a new card in the OP
