I know how to make a manual entry at the start of each shift but what do you do when the previous day was a paper disc

write your manual entry on rear of said disc
If you have gone from a analogue to a digital then I would imagine you just keep the disc with you for 28 days.

Correct - then between 29 and 42 days you hand that disc to the operator

You mean inputting the data onto the digital tacho?

Manual entries for shifts done using a digital tachograph should be put into the digital tachograph where it’s practical to do so.
If you’re using a type 2 digital tachograph:
- Do any manual entries you need for the end of the last shift on a digital tachograph as normal.
- record the time from the end of the last shift of a digital tachograph with the symbol ?
- Do any manual entries you need to do for the start of the current shift as normal.
On a digital tachograph the ? symbol is for unaccounted time such as when you’ve used an analogue tachograph.
If you’re using a type 1 digital tachograph just do manual entries for the end of the previous shift on a digital tachograph and the start of the current shift as usual (if you normally do them) and forget about the shift on an analogue tachograph, you’ve got the chart for that shift.

I read it as driver has removed analogue disc prior to finishing work, debrief , hand in paperwork keys etc
If the previous day was on analogue then that is the record for that day - it does not need repeating the following day on a digi by way of a manual entry

You could be right, I assumed that he meant what to do about a manual entry on a digital tachograph when the previous shift was on analogue tachograph, he could mean either really
either way the OPs got the answer, manual entries for shifts on analogue tachograph should be done on the back of the chart, manual entries for shifts on digital tachographs should be done on the digital tachograph where it’s practical to do so.
thanks guys. sorry if i didn’t make it clear . used digi card monday, analog tuesday back on digi card wednesday. when card is entered it dosnt know i worked previous day

The analogue does not know you were on digi the day before …
As long as you have an official record for each day then you are legal

Not quite correct.
Hand the disc in from day 30 and no later than day 42. Keep it with you for 29 days as you’re required to be able to produce records covering the current day and the previous 28 days, so 29 days of records.
