Manual Entries when doing a course etc

What’s the proper way of doing this? And let’s say you are doing a course which is several days long eg CPC modules. Somebody said that you should use the ? mode. Do you do this after you return to your vehicle after for example 5 days and just use the ? mode for a block of time or would you have to enter for each day? I hope this makes sense. Thank.s

If you’re doing the course as part of your job and want to manually record the time record it as other work on a chart or printout, When you next insert your driver card use the ? symbol for the time from the end of the last shift on a digital tachograph to when you insert the card.

Thanks. Does the ? mode always need to be linked to a printout?

Or alternatively don’t bother. It’s not as if the VOSA are going to get bent out of shape about a driver going on a CPC course.

No of course not. But you are supposed to account for your time. I like to know how things are done properly. I am surprised by your reply to be honest.

No not necessarily, the ? symbol is for time that’s not accounted for, for instance if you had a day using an analogue tachograph or log book you couldn’t legally book the time as rest on your driver card so you use the ? symbol to show that you was doing something else.

Lets say you used your driver card on Monday then used an analogue tachograph on Tuesday, when you put your card into a digital tachograph on Wednesday you would record all the time since the end of shift on Monday with the ? symbol.

Thanks.

Interesting about the use of ? to account for time, thankyou i hadn’t thought of that.

We complete 1 day every year, so it’s simple enough to enter the correct hours for the DCPC module the next time you start work, i wondered how long it would take to map an entire previous week out for those who block train (boring or what :open_mouth: ), probably half an hour considering you’d make numerous mistakes as you squinted into the infernal machine at silly o’clock.

Have to agree with Harry, I wouldn’t get a sweat on worrying about it. Don’t think VOSA will be to much bothered about it.

This is why drivers should carry and complete a daily diary. Do your course and write for example “driver cpc 8 hours”, this is deemed acceptable to the authorities and also removers the potential for a manual entry ■■■■ up.

Makes sense, but what happen when the company check times, when daily worksheets, WTD timesheet, tacho downloads don’t agree if you haven’t tried your best with manual entries.

A diary may be accepted, but it’s not one of the official ways you can legally record any other work that needs recording.

If you don’t do any driving in a fixed week, then you don’t need to make any records

So do a full week of dcpc instead of being at work, and you don’t need to record anything

I generally drive for 2 weeks then do 2 weeks of other stuff, I don’t need to make any records for the non driving weeks.

I don’t get the no point recording it, it takes seconds, whether you manually enter it or write it on a printout, legally if you have to record it, why wait until stopped to see what that particular officer says about it? I think you’re stuck in the past with this attitude!

I have just spent the morning at a training provider doing an update for driver’s hours and doing manual entries on tachographs.

At the end of the session of the 3.5 hours, each driver put their driver card into the training office tachograph, entering the 3.5 hours and keeping the card up to date till I start again on Tuesday.
Simples.
