It’s the Welsh abbreviation for “and sons”.

“And Son” - “And Sons” would be a’i Feibion

I’ve actually started to try and learn welsh, mainly so I can listen in to the old ladies slagging me off when I pop into the local shop. Lol (actually never had any hassle as an English bloke living in West Wales, other than the bloody 6 nations)

I’ve picked up a few words, delivering to farms all day does help. On the rare occasion when I get some Plaid Cymru fanatic hassling me cos I’ve been here ten years and not done any Welsh classes, I just tell them I don’t want to embarrass the natives… only just over half of people born in Wales actually speak Welsh, and only about a quarter as first language. Soon shuts 'em up.

On the other side… that old wive’s tale about the Welsh all changing back into their own language as soon as an Englishman turns up is pure bull. Down this end most of 'em speak a patois of English and Welsh, and it’s very different to the Welsh spoken in the north of the country . And it’s considered bad manners round this way to carry on a conversation in Welsh if you know someone in the group doesn’t understand it.

First time I went to Wales, I thought every road took me to a place called ARAF. Didn’t realise is was Welsh for SLOW!

For anyone considering learning Welsh…

You do pick up a few words by reading road signs etc. It’s generally considered that when you can pronounce “Machynlleth” without making a Welshman burst out laughing, you’re acclimatised.
