I wonder who will hoover the work up?

Scum…

Spineless directors.

“At the public inquiry in Caernarfon in November, no one at director level took responsibility for the company’s dishonesty. Instead they resigned as directors just days before the hearing and did not attend.”

Alternatively, clever tactical decision using the rules to their advantage.

I also wonder if they can still operate until Feb if they don’t have any directors. Not sure if the transport manager positions are cancelled from then or immediate.

Going to be a “fun” time for their 300 employees although at least they get a bit more notice than Rhys Davis. Thats still a lot of people to find jobs for. I suspect any sensible ones would have moved on as soon as this kicked off.

Wonder who will take over the tanker work.

I think Owens may move in.Or the big boys may take bits and pieces. At least they should have had the decency to turn up.They may have been treated differently. They stuck their noses to the system.I hope they wont turn up again like a famous bus operator from these areas.

Mentioned in one article that younger family members have applied for a operator’s licence.

They will carry on with a slightly different name registered.

‘‘Junior member of staff’’ ‘‘was ordered’’ to falsify records and he gets the sentence.

Thats a real rock and hard place position to be put in by an employer (assuming things are as they appear on the face of it), don’t suppose jobs are that easy to come by in such areas, it take some balls to stand your ground until written instructions are given, which as we all know when you do ask for written instructions on questionable issues never actually arrive.

It’s an ignominious end for the company, but not one which surprises me.

Lot of drivers there who’ve worked for the company for a long time; for all that the rates were poor the money was there every week, not something you can say for every employer in this game.

Gregory’s will probably pick up much of the work, they’ve been building a strong presence in Haverfordwest for some time.

Theres a couple of big players around here who’ll be rubbing their hands… As mentioned above, Gregorski (spit) have been growing in that area, and have the milk tanker division to move straight in. Likewise, Wincanton already have a strong presence down here in the milk.

For the general stuff, aswel as Gregorski (spit) and Cannotwin, there are so many rate cutters here, I’d run out of ink listing them all :grimacing: , but
Nolans, Owen’s, Pembroke Freight (or what ever they are called at the moment… :unamused: ) are the most likely candidates. The rest, like Stobratski, are concentrated in the South East area, with little reason to travel the extra hour or two to darkest South West Wales.

If the company doesn’t do a Phoenix and gets taken over by the wife or wives of the retired directors, my money is on Gregorski (spit) and Cannotwin to take the milk, and Nolan and Gregorski(spit) taking the general.

I’ve lived in that part of Wales, and there are certain people who are so well established in society that they consider themselves above the law. They felt quite entitled to order juniors to break the law and cary the can when the law-breaking came to light. It was like a Welsh ‘Stobart’: too big and well-known to be criticised.

Reading between the lines, the TC will let the operation continue after Feb, but the older generation will not be allowed near it, and the company must have a completely different name, the entire fleet has got to be reliveried, and the ‘next generation’ of the family will be in charge. I suspect DVSA will be all over them like a rash!

This lot should be treated like the government likes to treat Unions who upset them: sequestration of all assets.

i’d be interested to get luke’s take on this…

The fact that carrying out an order from above seems to be a documented/stated part of the prosecution case against him says it’s more than face value.IE the prosecution knows and acknowledged that he was acting on orders from his boss.

Asking for the instruction in writing seems moot if the ones doing the ordering think/know that they are going to be immune from any come back regardless.
In the case of employed staff and contravention of hours regs, weight limits, maintenance rules I’ve long said that the premise should be on the innocence of the employee/s and only the boss has a case to answer. On the basis of motive and opportunity. :bulb:

While bosses thinking that they are immune and the poor victimised mug employee will take the blame is obviously counterproductive regarding a decent O licencing regime with teeth.
Also bearing in mind that any such argument will probably end up in being sacked when first refusing to carry out the order and no way of proving anything either way.Thereby also discounting yourself from any benefits claim.

It looks flies and quacks like the upper echelons all looking after each other while victimising employees the same now as in the Victorian era and the 1920’s.

Blimey Thatcher long ago applied a two tier double standard in that regard and got away with it.

As it stands the boss says jump the employee says how high.If not it’s the dole queue with no claim to dole money.Oh and a reference which will say or imply don’t employ this militant. The spectre of Thatcher and with it the 1920’s employment regime is alive and well.

Reading the TC’s official report, it turns out I was wrong. The Phoenix company wont be taken over by the ex directors wife.

But the kids… :unamused:

Barghs will move further into Wales and take some of the work, Lloyds will too
