I’ve driven a few 18 tonners and I found the gearbox way better than the artics. Bit weird how they got it right in the rigids and very wrong in the artics.

The MAN is getting a bit of stick on here for various faults.
Some of them could apply to any marque of modern truck today, cheap crappy plastic interior, flimsy trim, hard bed, soft bed. Some don’t like the autobox set up, …some do.
Every type of truck car or anything else, has it’s various faults and bad design points.
I’ve driven a lot of different types in my time and never found any type or marque that I have thought …this is 100% perfect to me, and to my liking, and I don’t reckon anybody else has.
Some like the same things that other drivers hate, that’s why we don’t all run about in a standardised one size fits all truck.
I can forgive the MAN for its cheaply built crappy interior or the stupid design of the coolbox which unnecessarily takes up floor space but the gearbox? Seriously? Absolutely no driver in their right mind could think it is any good. I have driven a multitude of auto trucks and they all have their faults except maybe Volvo but the MAN’s is just truly awful in every way. I seriously cannot think of anything positive to say about it and the designers and test drivers that signed it off must have been on drugs.
Thing is, if it was just the first year then they realised how crap it was then did something about it I could forgive them but I’ve driven 64 platers which are no different/better than the 07 first generations which to me shows a total lack of respect to us as drivers that have been complaining for years.
Rant over…and breathe [emoji29]
I used one of our auto TGX 6 leggers the other day. I ran up to Scotland and back, ended up needing a 45 at Charnock Richard.
1 tight spot on a 45 degree angle remaining, and that bloody deep kerb ready to wipe my n/s step or bumper out on the reverse. Had a few try’s at it and ended up abandoning it because the thing kept lurching whilst I had the lock on.
Not very controllable at all when you need to be accurate. Made me look like a right ■■■.
(Not that I need a truck for that!)
