just got a new xxl tractor and a nice new trailer to go with it and i have to say it goes like a steam train, its got 2 tanks 1200 ltrs and made me cough when i saw the price to fill it up,i only do 2 nights out a month so was suprised when this arrived, how long till it falls to bits?or are they ok.
very good lorry. just a bit plasticy inside.
they don’t breakdown too often.
they have the power like a scania, but comfort near to daf.
and a steering wheel the size of a dustbin lid,and a stupid fridge that sticks out too far but apart from that not too bad
They also come with a turbo pipe that falls of at regular intervals, and electrics which have a mind of there own. We have had approx 50 xlx 440s in the last 18 months, some seem to be totally fault free, including mine, thankfully, and others seem to be proper
friday afternoon/monday morning` motors.
Personally I like mine and find it very easy and relaxing to drive, but has as already been said, the way the fridge sticks out is a bleedin pain in the ■■■■.

Can take the fridge out easily enough, 3 bolts. Assuming you have the correct size TRX socket. Though the built in table is useful, lose the fridge, you lose the table as well. Which is a ridiculous failure on the designers part.
They are good motors, I like driving mine, but enough small issues to get on your nerves. None have left me stranded yet (apart from when I got a rock through the completely unprotected radiator. MAN will swear black is white, that they never have issues with them. They are liars).
Exhaust brakes will fail eventually. Some are more effective than others.
Some automatic gearboxes seem to have a better idea of what is going on than others. They will also revert back to auto at an inappropriate time, even if you manually select ‘Manual’.
The curtains don’t cover the quarter light windows properly, or meet in the middle of the windscreen properly.
Ditto the sunvisors, in all but the XXL, which has a powered sunvisor, that will of course break when you need it most.
Electrics were designed by a chimpanzee, interior cab lights will fail at random, usually solved by thumping random bits of the inside. (The bulbs in the main interior lights don’t fit the holders properly, so they are constantly arcing, eventually this burns holes away in the bulb ends itself, and they need replacing. So if your lights go out completely, and don’t come back with a thump, check the bulbs. They are also, all in series, so if one bulb fails, you are in darkness.
There is no pollen filter, so you will be chasing dust for eternity in the cab.
Front headlight washers leak (who ever uses front headlight washers?), so you will have no washer fluid.
The lack of continuity in the units is the biggest annoyance. We have seven from brand new, all now pull differently at around 120k, and feel different, and all developed different problems. Unfortunately the one I use the most at the moment, seems to be the dudd of the fleet.
Wouldn’t choose one if I was an owner driver, doubt i’d ever sleep at night.
re- the radiators,Mine and the ones that came after it have a stone guard fitted as standard. The 10 that came before didn
t but could have one retro fitted at 150 quid plus labour!
MAN told us it wasn`t a problem until the local dealer was informed that we run into a quarry for a living.
best thing is the shear amount of space you have in them only thing i would say is that when at a round about put your foot on the go peddle 10 seconds before you really want to move lol the lag on them is crazy also dont rate the clutch to much on them always had to drive with the hill start on gives you a bit quicker pick up from a standing start

mines just started sticking on in the last week or so and the pollen filters under the windscreen behind the black plastic panel
My mates had a brand new engine replaced at 230000kms,covered by the warranty!!
Manual gearbox is brilliant though
