Had a MAN TGA last night couldn’t find a switch for the diff lock anywhere. It’s shown in the manual - a diagram of what it looks like at least, but not where it’s located, & it’s definitely not amongst the main bank of switches. Anyone know if it’s hidden somewhere, or is it just not fitted as standard in these autos?
not all trucks come with a diff lock.
dont think ive ever used it on my auto axor and i definetly dont use it to move on snow/ice.
i just turn off the traction control so it will let me spin the wheels on the ice without the computer cutting out the engine revs. aint got stuck yet.
Thanks for reply, I sort of suspected as much, it’s just I had a bit of a struggle pulling a fully loaded trailer off a sloping bay last night & thought I’d give it a go with the diff lock - eventually managed it with a bit of wheel spin.
If fitted will be to the left of steering wheel under the gagues looks like the headlight switch
My TGA’s don’t have it. Should be standard fit really.

nor do mine, use the manual selector a bit more and it will help to hold it a gear you want. Nothing worse then just get going and it changes gear and leaves you stuck again.
The TGA I’ve had all week doesn’t have a diff lock. Ironically, I haven’t got stuck anywhere in it, yet the TGS’s with diff lock I’ve lost traction on farms with the diff lock engaged
you had to spec it as an extra when ordering a new TGA

diff lock is no good on ice, handy for mud though
Why is that then Dave?
Without DL engaged the wheel with the least traction will spin whilst the one with the most traction won’t turn. By engaging the DL you’ve effectively doubled your driven wheels from 1 to 2.

have,nt a clue why but on times in the past when ive tried diff lock in the past on snow or ice it just seems to pull me to one side or the other .now i dont touch it at all, it may work better in a manual truck but ive drove autos for a while and on ice etc i just find that by turning the traction control off which allows the revs to be maintained meanns i can move forwards in a straights line whilst spinning the wheels without drifter to one side or the other.
also years ago i done an off road course with the mod and land rover who told me never to use diff locks on snow or ice especially on the move as i would come off on the first corner.
as i said i aint been stuck yet but ive seen many get stuck by using difflock on ice
O I C.
Your instructor was correct in that you should not expect to be able to steer with DL engaged. Its only a “get out of stuck” thing.
just looked at my spelling and its naff, then again after nearly a 3/4 of a bottle of jd and coke i think im excused spelling
Not sure about the TGA but my owld man had ASR and it would just take your throttle of you. The only way you could get it unstuck was to turn it off.
I think they’ve improved ASR a lot since then (more use of the brakes, less of the throttle)
