After a lot of digging around today, I found the water leak on our yard spare, a 2003 TGA. It’s in the EGR heat exchanger, evidenced by some white emulsion sludge on the exhaust gas exit from the HE.My boss phoned Imex to get a price for a new one, to get told that they can’t supply, it’s a main dealer part. So he phoned the main dealer.

£3000! For a [zb] pipe inside a bigger pipe! The unit isn’t worth that much FFS.Going to have a closer look tomorrow to see if there’s any sort of repair than we can do, but otherwise it’ll have to live with it - it only does short runs, and will have to be topped up regularly until it dies a death.

they can be blanked off but i cant remember where i read it now

If it was mine I’d whack four bottles of k-seal in and see how it got on. It must be k-seal don’t touch radseal or any cheap alternative.
I wouldn’t use it on a customer’s vehicle but depending on the cause of the leak it can work indefinitely and save a load of work and money on parts. Particularly with older vehicles it can be beneficial in plugging up various tiny leaks all round the system.

Lee, most of the time, the parts you buy from spurious suppliers, such as HGV Direct, Digraph and the like, are usually made by the same company that makes the original equipment for the dealerseg., i can get a clutch slave cylinder for the DAF XF ZF 16 speed manual transmission from DAF, in a box marked as DAF for £400 plus surcharge as it is an exchange item
or
i can go to HGV direct and get an aftermarket clutch slave cylinder for the same truck for £200 no surcharge, not exchange item
take them both out of the box, they are identical, made by the same company, even has the company name embossed on the item
the moral of the story is, ask them how much it is without the box that says DAF on it
another one, load sensing valve for the XF, in a DAF box £400, in a plastic bag from HGV direct, £195, both items made by Wabco
Its far easyier to convince others when you have convinced yourself… hanky spanky
99.9% Gen parts always fitted to ours… !!!

I’m a bit with Mr Pie Eater, buy it cheap and you’ll buy it twice
Still smarting from some ‘‘quality’’ non OE brake pads bought from a factor for £80 against £120 from the Dealer, one pad disintigrated and broke up destroying the disc, cue £250 to replace all the spurious pads and fit a new brake disc
But if the broken part says Wabco, Bosch etc on it and the factor supplied part is Wabco, Bosch etc then I’ll take a chance if its significally cheaper
That is what I am saying, why pay dealer parts prices for Knorr Bremse brake pads in a DAF box for say £130 when you can get Knorr Bremse brake pads in a Knorr Bremse box for £75?
They are exactly the same part, made by the same company, just not in a dealer box
Brochure through from Scania today on service x change parts
turbos on R 420/ 480 = £505
Air compressor £500
Steering box £430
AC Compressor£445
Water pump £150
Clutch 3 piece kit £460
Starter £290
Looks good value to me, but unsure on other makes cost.
ive never had a problem with scania prices for spares, quite ironic that the most expensive truck to buy initially has some of the cheapest parts available
starter for an f2000 £440 couldn’t help but laugh

the proof is in the pudding… like Buying those SUB standard recycled U boats if you wasn’t so mean and bought proper trucks and PIEs you wouldn’t really need cheap parts from factor to keep the recycled U Boats chugging un popping up and down…
you no its a fact!!! BUY CHEAP PAY TWICE
like with recycled U Boats
they say buy cheap buy twice
