After reading about the fella that lives in his car in the lay by on the A9 at Blair Atholl on here in the past and having a drop up near John O Groats on Monday I decided that on my way back down on Tuesday I’d pull up and have a break with him and give him some grub.
So I got into the lay by and filled 2 shopping bags with things like tea bags, pasta, soup, tinned potatoes, tuna pots and tins of mince and onion and kit kats and walked over to him. What a pleasant chap he is considering how he lives he was extremely grateful for the food and I stopped and had a natter with him for an hour.
He showed me loads of old photos of cars like E type Jags and a Ferrari he used to own and hill climb, the pictures of his family and where he used to live and he told me some very interesting stories from the past. He now has a big tent he sleeps in and a couple of smaller ones. People have stopped off and gave him stuff in the past. Someone once left him a pushbike so he could go on rides but like he said he doesn’t venture too far away from the car.
If any of you are passing that way on your journeys then pull over and meet him he’s a sound guy with a story or 2 to tell and it’ll pass your break away better than listening to the radio or reading a paper. I’ve no doubt there is lads on here who regular stop over and keep him stocked up on supplies and good on you for doing so.

Never realised Toby travelled that far North, next thing is the guy will be invited for a meal with the mayor of Pitlochry
Now where’s that LIKE button?
Good for you Steve
I pass him a couple of times a week and the snow has been that deep you couldnt see the wheels on his car, its no life but he always gives a wave if you toot him going past
Raymundo, really,I read the post and could not believe that it is one of yours!.Why would Pitlochry have a Mayor. There ere plenty of Provosts available back in the day.
Do a search for “guy living on a9” and you will get lots of results on it.

Sorry my bad, still getting to grips with the language up here 'cos I’ve only lived in Moray for 20 years and not sure if Toby would know what a provost was
Very interesting fella, surly an 06 plate mercedes would sell for enough for him to have a small camper van? Specially as he now has it fixed.
Be a lot more comfortable.
