MAN bumpers

Anyone had trouble with the plastic corner panels? Im finding they are too low to the ground (on bulk work) and are getting damaged too frequently. Apart from getting rid (not an option) or fitting larger tyres, are there any (sensible) suggestions?

You’re not the first to find this. I’ve scraped more than a few on farms and construction sites. Samworth Brothers have been fitting metal bumpers in place of plastic ones for years.

Some people I’ve seen have fitted bits of sheet metal around the bottom to prevent strikes but really its not going to do much if you catch it with enough force to crack the plastic.

If you cant put more distance between the bumper and the ground, there’s not much you can do.

Don`t worry, they will soon fall off anyway, we are 99% man and they disappear regularly. Good thing is they are only about 15 quid to replace.

i’ve always wondered why samworth brothers felt the need to do that - they look ■■■■■■ :open_mouth:

at the risk of sounding cocky, there is one thing you can do, thats pay extra attention to where your going, i was on poultry for a few years, starting when i had the ecx, no worries there at all - then the tgx, never broke that one, then when i got my daf and fitted the lower spoiler/air dam everyone thought i was mad - but i never damaged it on a farm - the first time i broke it was at trent wharfage at gainsborough, i drove into a “special puddle” not very wide, but ■■■■■■ deep! so deep it broke the step plate aswell! the second time i caught it was at solway daf at penrith - imagine my surprise when i did that one, you’d at least expect their yard to be suitable to cope with trucks they built! now its the first thing i look for almost when i pull into somewhere new, the terrain and “special puddles”… been into olympic containers at manchester tonight - my arse was nipping a little to say the least :unamused:

not much clearance…

no prizes for spotting the tempory repair after going to TW.

Not being funny here but don’t operators specify vehicles for the job any more, rough work farms etc don’t buy motorway cruiser spec.

I obviously don’t know if this is where he got it but we buy a lot of pattern MAN bits like steps and bumpers from here:

imexpart.com/product_range/t … index.html

Catalogue:
b2b.resource-ps.co.uk/previews/9453man/Man.html

Drop into conversation you’ve spoken to imex to a main MAN or IVECO dealer parts guy and watch the £££s peel off list. The main dealer will often beat Imex but I try to support them a bit as if they weren’t there the main dealers would be back to full list.

Also on any brake or air system component mention you’ve got a lower price on a WABCO or Knorr Bremse part that’s the same even if you can’t find one.

Since a lot of farms turned themselves into ‘enterprise parks’ without any alterations or improvements to the yard or access it’s quite common to go to one even if you’re mostly on the motorway with a curtainsider. Also since online you can end up in all sorts of unsuitable places because someone’s bought something online and it’s been shipped on a pallet.
