MAN and Scania to merge

VW have this morning announced that they have bought a controlling interest in Scania. It is beleived they are now going to push through a merger of MAN and Scania. I wonder if they put together the best bits of each truck what will it look like ?

i thinkyou will find the controling number of Scania shares
which are still in swedish hands will have some thing to say
here as MAN has tried before and did not get that far.

not that its likely to happens, but if it did, id say theyd run the two brands seperately, you might find the odd scania part in a man or vica versa, same way you find volvo parts in renaults now

VW have bought the Wallenberg familys shares. They do now control Scania. They may continue to make two brands for the moment but i wouldn’t bank on it forever.

MAN do have something of a track record here, bye-bye Scania me thinks; just quitely over the next five or ten years of course.

Very interesting indeed!

A very high capital percentage and a significant majority vote control. Should see some developments, probably after the May AGM rather than before.

I wonder how all this will work out over the next 18 months.

WOLFSBURG, Germany (Thomson Financial) - Volkswagen AG said it has reached a deal with the Investor AB and Wallenberg Foundations to acquire all their 134.7 mln A-shares in Scania AB for 200 skr per share.

The deal increases Europe’s biggest carmaker’s voting rights in Scania to 68.60 pct from 37.98 pct and increases its share capital in Scania to 37.73 pct from 20.89 pct.

‘The completion of the purchase is subject to merger clearance,’ VW said in a statement.

A spokesman for MAN AG, which holds 17 pct voting rights in Scania, said: ‘We welcome this because it increases the chances for a closer cooperation of the truck businesses of Scania, MAN and VW.’

VW holds nearly 30 pct stake in MAN.

Company sources said the deal means that VW and MAN AG now hold between them around 85 pct of the voting rights in Scania.

‘The deal means that VW has now accelerated the whole process of a three-way truck tie-up,’ one source said.

Sources said though that they do not expect a deal on a three-way merger to be in place by the time Scania’s AGM meets in May this year.

If scania help man to toughen up a bit and man help scania with there brakes, beds and dealer attitudes then everyones a winner
