malton

come off the a64 onto the b1248 [ past bmw on left, ind estate on right ] , down to traffic lights , turn right and follow road over railway crossing back out to north grove industrial estate[ think that was the name ] , your basically going through malton .
telling mate how i got there he said its a 7.5 t limit on that road, is it  , im sure there wasnt one.
he said that some of ours have been stopped by coppers and then escorted through  , if there was a limit surely theyd do you, not ■■■■■■ you through , why ■■■■■■ you its not exactly tight .
im thinking the locals dont like big trucks thundering through there town , but is it actually illegal , is there a 7.5 t limit .
n.b when i leave industrial estate i do go back onto a64 by turning right and going out onto a64 without going into malton , but cant see a slip road to get off if your comming northbound up 64.
mates answer is go to end of dual carriage way and theres enough room to screw it round, come back down and pick up slip that way :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: dodgy to say the least

Im 100% (ish  )Sure there is no limit on that road

no weight limit on that road,

definately no limit o the road you took,
I used to live just by rail lines!!

loads of arctics use that route to and from bacon place ect,

a few months back norton high st was closed on occasions and the diversion took you right after rail lines and then left however this left is a 7.5 t limit which is poss the road your mate was on about as quite a few trucks were using it especially johnnie foreigner,

There’s no weight limit but you’re much better off not going that way. Your mate was half right. There’s a no U turn sign at the end of the dual carriageway but if you follow the road for another half mile or so and turn right for Scagglethorpe at the Ham and Cheese pub then there’s a turning circle on the left almost as soon as you’ve turned off the A64 that is plenty big enough for an artic.

I speak with some authority on this as I’ve just finished a shift for Stobarts/Innovate at the Malton Bacon Factory and that’s their “official” route in there that they tell us all to use.

Are Westlers still in Amotherby? I used to go in there to collect rotten meat in open top barrels

Stunk like a kebab shop after a shift

Yep, they’re still there, and you still have to go through town to get to them. There is talk though of putting a junction in on the A64 bypass where the B1257 crosses it which will change that.

I used to go into the bacon place at Norton, when we was doing the wincanton contract at Maltby near the stockyard. I learned a lot of alternate route to/from malton. all the agency drivers used to get pulled by the cops for doing U turns coming from york on the A64 duel carrageway to get to the ind est, instead of going up, turning right to the bus bay next to the ham & cheese pub at scagglethorpe, and coming back out onto the A64. We knew where most of the best places to hide, even coming up sutton bank, or over the top on the 1257 from stokesley via helmsley with a 6x2 & tri axil trl
I dunno if the chippy is still there in malton, but we used to cause chaos pulling up outside and walking in. The 1 where you come out the ind est, turn left into town, about a mile on theres a mini roundabout, turn left, and its down the bottom on the left. Wed go that way through Wetwang towards goole or sutton bridge if the A64 was shut. Geting out of Malton towards wetwang could be a PIA in the wet due to the short steep bends as you climb out of malton. 1 of my favourite routes to Malton involved the caravan route around sutton bank, as theres a little village store that did wonderful sandwiches, and tubs of home made ice cream .................. honest boss, we didnt skive, we just had alex in the office at the bacon factory on speed dial, and wed ring him to find out what time wed be due in for the back haul

The chippy is still there I think its called “The Fish Place”.

Never been aware of a weight limit down there.

Alleulia, that’ll be about time too, I’ve a customer in Slingsby who deals in combines, trying to get anything over 3.5m wide past the parked cars on Victoria Rd between the cattle market and the traffic lights on the B1257 is a nightmare  .
