Hi has anyone worked for mallinson transport in Barnsley if so what kind of work do they do and what are they like to work for I’m due to work some night shifts on the agency
Hi mate, I did some work for these last year through Dplus agency. I mainly did the Asda work for them to be honest but some drivers were running general haulage for them. trucks were a bit battered, even the newer ones looked tired. Watch the sneaky b*****ds though, they try and pin previous vehicle damage on you, make sure you note down every dent, scratch, Chip and bird ■■■■ mark.

if you did that with mallinsons trucks you would never get out the yard. if its nights you would proberly be picking up a unit at barnsley then onto asda fridges.
When I look back I really miss chilled asda work. I Hated it at the time though. majority of the stores were the old nettos and arent really set up for artics. All good fun though.
3 shops on trailer:
1st shop- take off 1st shop chilled, move cages for other 2 shops to get the 1 cage of frozen out. put back the cages for other 2 shops, load on 1st shops empties & rubbish.
2nd shop- move 1st shop empties & rubbish, take off 2nd shop chilled, move 3rd shops chilled to get to 2nd shops 2 cages of frozen off, put 3rd shop chilled back, put first shops rubbish & empties back, load 2nd shops rubbish & empties on.
3rd shop- move 1st and 2nd shops rubbish & empties, take 3rd shops chilled and frozen off, put back 1st and 2nd shops rubbish and empties, load 3rd shops rubbish & empties on.
Ball ache!!
Asda will want their pound of flesh off you, and don’t recognise your start time until you arrive at their premises. (You may have been on the road 3 hours already.) You need to tell them what your limit is. I saw this first hand last December when I was in there, and 2 lads had been at work that morning doing their green card, and the dope behind the desk said to them, “We only book you on when you arrive, and that’s when your shift starts with us.”
And I’m guessing it’s a fixed rate Dean.
I’ll leave you to work it out. And yes, I have my green card.
Ken.

Agreed.
The green card is ■■■■■■■■ BTW. You’re meant to have one but if they need drivers, it’s amazing how it becomes ‘optional’!
Sorry about the silly question, but I’m a paddy, in paddyland, what is the green card you are talking about?
It’s a green coloured card which you receive after doing an induction with Asda. Your supposed to have one before working on an Asda site. But as has been previously mentioned, if they are busy they ain’t bothered. If you work through mallinsons you get inducted by mallinsons and receive a shoddy bit of card with your name on it nicely laminated. This is a only useful when working for mallinsons.

It’s as described above…I’ll just add it’s utterly pointless so forget it! I’ve worked in Asda many a time and not only have I not got a green card, I have no intention of ever getting one!!

And your piccy on it!!!
It’s also used by agency drivers, and C.Butts drivers.
You use it as a cashless thing as well when you use their canteens. You put money on it, and use it accordingly. If you ain’t got cash on, you don’t eat or drink. However when I worked at Somerfields at Sherburn, we had the same system and it wasn’t unusual for to buy an agency driver a coffee as they didn’t have access to our card system, and both of the coffee machines in the drivers room were cashless.
See. We did have a heart…

For anyone interested in aquiring a green card for ASDA XDC wakefield (the old netto south elmsall site) I recieved a text message last week from an agy (talstaff in sheffield) wanting green card holders for that site. then minutes later I received another from them offering green card training + 8hrs pay for doing it. However after phoning them to ask about rates, I found out they are paying around £0.50 p/hr less than any others especially on O/T rates, even though they recon to have aquired sole supplier right for that site… along with a dozen other agys in the area. AFAIK they are all 2nd tier supliers to another in Wakefield
